Okay well I made a Midget AA team in the spring, but we play all AAA?!!?!?. I pretty sure I'm the backup but the coaches haven't said anything yet, i don't really mind being backup though. Well I was excited to be on my first high level club team. So we had a tournament this weekend which went.... terribly. Half of our players were at a soccer tournament! (they were all from Brunswick (the school)). And then the rest of the players are from my highschool rival school, Darien. (check this article out, seriously we ****ing hate them http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/16/nyregion/nyregionspecial2/16hockeyct.html (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/16/nyregion/nyregionspecial2/16hockeyct.html)
But I grew to like them over the weekend, they were really nice even knowing that i was from New Canaan.
okay so here is how the games went.
GAME 1 (9am friday morning): Were playing a team from Arizona (AZ Mission). Well im sitting in the locker room and its me another goalie and 6 players. This Arizona team shows up in full suits with a huge boom box blasting some really bad music.... I did not start this game, though i am happy i didnt play considering we had to end after the first period due to our players exhaustion. Final score was 3-0.
Game 2 (9pm friday night): Im starting this game and we have 9 players this time. So I was pretty syked!!!!! This was my first game since February (do not confuse this with ice time I have had around 100 hours of ice over the spring and summer). So we were playing this team from Walpole Mass. So after 3 17 minute periods the final score was 9-2 for them.... Shot count was 68-5. I loved how i played, so did my coaches and teamates, We just didnt have a full team. My dad said it was the best game i had ever played. I had a lot of compliments after the game in the lobby, even the other teams goalie came up to me and said i played great.
Game 3 (1:30pm satuday): Drive two hours to Bolton ice rink (tournament is spread out over western Connecticut). Drive in and one of the dads waves us over. We have 4 players, two of which are goalies..... We are playing the team of all teams: Mid Fairfield (best major team in the country). All these guys on this team are going to play D1 college hockey.... One of my friends is on the team, he left my highschool two years ago to go play at a prep school (TAFT). We tell the other coach that we a forfitting... He goes crazy, saying a bunch of bull**** how we shouldnt even be in tier 1 (we shouldnt), but he is making a scene and yelling at a dad.... So there whole team is there, each about 2x the size of me. So the two players can play in our organizations midget minor game.. which is 30 minutes away in 45 minutes, so they take off. Me and the other goalie have 6 hours before the next game. So he goes to a friends house in the area and I go to the other rink and just wait there. I then go to subway and then come back to be told that the Midget Minor goalie has been injured (there backup is on Vacation... WTF?) and that I will need to fill in for him at 7:30. I drive back home and wait to go. By this time i am very tired because of all the driving.
Game 4 (Saturday 7:30): So im supposed to pretend to be a midget minor (16 yrs old). Everyone at the rink is talking about what my major team did this morning to mid faifield major. I get to the rink and find out were playing Mid fairfields minor team.... National champions....WOW FUN.. and we dont have our first two lines cause they had to go up and play for the my major team who had a game at the same time!!!!! :). We had 10 players who had played only two games ever together and I hate to say but they werent that great. This other team has been playing together for the past 6 years. Okay.... I think you know what happens. I start the game and in the back of my mind im like, maybe just maybe we can up set these mother ****ers. Our game plan was to ice the puck every time we touched the puck (my team couldnt even manage to do that). Final score after 1 period of play 10-0... shots 39-1. They ended the game after the 1st. The thing is these weren't just shots, these were tic-tac-toe plays. They were REALLY ****ing fast. I think if my defense had been better we would have lasted 2 periods.. but there ****ing national champions (either a year ago or two). My team was really happy with how I played, they were celebrating that we lasted a period... I was kinda pissed but at the same time kinda happy that the workout was over... (I was dead).
If you don't believe me when i say these teams were good here are the national rankings: http://www.nationalhockeyrankings.com/ , look under midget.
Well for the rest of the midget season we have everyone on the team.... so were set it was just this weekend we had like no one.
Well I got a lot of learning out of this tournament... a ****load of shots. But it was well worth it. My High school (main team) teams boot camp begins tomorrow. CANT WAIT!
Thank you for reading.
I know it gets pretty confusing at some points..
