For about a year I had some discomfort in my knee, so I finally got it looked out, thinking it was just over use. Doctor said goto an orthopedist because I may have a torn meniscus. He didn't say to stop playing so I filled in for a friend, and towards the end of the session, I went full extension butterfly, my did a combo pop and buckle, so I skated off.
Within two days i had my ortho visit, and he said get an MRI, a week later, torn meniscus. Surgery was August 13th, and I tore it to hell and beyond. The doctor already has given me clearance to play but I know im not ready yet.
The funny thing about the injury is I really never had any swelling and only minor pain. Only once did my knee lock up.
Does anyone have advice for getting back in the game after a knee injury?

Stretching for sure.
If you can do anything else to build up the strength in your core/leg muscles (without risking aggrevating the knee) do it as you'll die the first time you get back on the ice after a long lay off, whatever you can do to limit death is good.
As MT said, don't over do it straight away, try and ease yourself back in to it. Consentrate on the basics like movement and angles to try and avoid having to make any mass extravegant saves and risk pulling/breaking something!

also look into your diet to help your recover, things like glucosamine, protein and cods liver oil, all to help muscle repair and lubricate the joint, obs wear a support when playing, and only play if it feels right, i did it with my ankle and you end up sitting out even longer

Thanks,
My knee feels normal except for crawling, just cant do it without pain. I have a slideboard at home in the garage and some pad covers so once I can crawl, ill see if I can drop.
As for diet, I did put on some weight, since I haven't played hockey since June.
I finally was kicked out of rehab but I have most equipment i need to work strength, like exercise bike, free weights (with leg extension, ham string curl add-on). I just also purchased a stretch a flex.
Needless to say, I am going pretty nuts not playing at all, especially when I was playing deck and ice hockey 6 days a week.

strenghten your inner knee area, I got some exercises, I hurt my knee a while back and a chiropractor helped me alot, I've started early september and I already notice a huge difference.
I think it is called a tera band, you put it around your feet and do side lunges. do like 50 a side, and 3 sets, good workout.
also, I have no idea i have 2 more really good exercises, but I'm not very good at describing them, so I'll do it tommorrow when I find my sheet that says how to do it.
good luck man, don't go back until you are better then 100%, if your knee feels good, make it even better.
good luck man, you'll be on the ice soon
