Terd's season....

So after starting off rough with a stomach virus, and then a knee injury, the boy has started to get back to basics and playing almost to where he was before the injury. He had his first game today against a tough team in his division that has been known to score a lot of goals.

He faced 46 shots but was credited with 36 and let in 1. His team won 2-1 and He shut the door on this team from the get go and the lone goal he let in was one where he stopped it and it was under his pad (5 hole area) and it popped out about 6 inches in front of him and when he went to cover it his legs went apart enough for the rebound to be knocked in....

Other than that he had a great regular season opener.

This game was the 4th game we had and he started and left with a stomach problem with a couple mins left in the 2nd.... and we were 0-0
the other goalie comes in and lets the first shot on goal in... we get a goal go to a shootout and lose after a couple rounds.

This was the 2nd game the team played and he played the entire game and shut down the other team and we won 2-0 He complained before and after game as he was having the same stomach issues... uggh

This game was our first game together as a team together and he was scheduled to start but spent the 1st and most of the 2nd being sick and didnt even get on the ice, then end of the 2nd he says he felt better and came in and doesnt give up a goal in the 2nd, but gives up 1 in the 3rd. the goalie that was in the net before him gave up 7.

I will keep posting on this and his development this year.... last year he played well, but didnt have the wins to show for it. Thi year I think will be different.


Sadly I didnt bring my camcorder today so I didnt get any clips... normally I do. :(


I will get some more clips later on next game he plays...we play 3 games next weekend, I think he is scheduled to get 2 of them, 2 of the teams are very solid... 1 is the team he was shutting out till he left the game, so I know he wants a rematch ! :D

Well, we had 3 games this weekend....starting off with the lone Saturday game,
Terd let 2 in right off the bat off the first 2 shots... he didnt look like himself and he honestly played poorly... we lost that game 8-1 he faced 36 shots and let in 8 they only gave him credit for 21 shots, and the scorekeeper admitted he didnt count shots till the 2nd period on us ! THANKS... anywho 1 of which was put in by his own defencemen.... I will see if I can get that clip up later on....
Worst part was this was against the same team he shut out in the tourney 2-0 !

2nd game
He played better, but the refs were being sticklers and required him to wear the mouthgaurd, which Im not opposed too, but he just hasnt been wearing it and I hadnt been trying to buy a new one, so last second we buy 1 and we didnt have time to form fit it, so hes biting down on this thing the whole game and its giving him a headache... which I say he should have sucked it up and delt with, but oh well, he did play better but we still lost this game
he faced 43 shots on this game and gave up an empty netter at the end which they added that shot on goal to his count...THANKS AGAIN.

last game sunday was 1 hour after the first and he came out stopping the other team and playing like we know he can... he faced 50 shots and let in 5. even though he gave up 5 on this game, it was 5 that he made the other team earn and there was 1 that wasnt week, but was banked in as the ref blew the whistle and they allowed it...

next weekend we play the team we lost 8-1 against and I told him if he plays like he did the 3rd game of this weekend the outcome will be much better.... I work with him tonight and Friday at practice so we will work on the ways he gave up the goals and see how to fix it.

Redemption Part 1.

Game vs Aces
the game went well. The team came out kinda rough and we didnt get out of our end for a good couple minutes and the Terd had to come up big. We finished the 1st down 1-0 and 2nd period we put the heat on and put some shots on the other goalie who played very well. A very athletic and flexible kid.... but not technical whatsoever.
3rd period rolls around and we get a goal and it gets dirty.... total penalities from the other team was 20, so their coach will be gone next game :D and we had 13. we go to OT and we had a line that didnt get off the ice, didnt back check and the D turned the puck right over to a kid and he came in and shot it right on the outside of the blocker side and managed to hit twine (against the grain) ... it was a very nice shot !

overall im very happy regardless of the loss, as coming from a 8-1 loss against this team last weekend... we play them again next weekend. so I will call that redemption part 2 ! :D

I remember hearing one of their assistant coaches saying before the game, we mopped up on this team last time, we will kill them again, and after the game he comes out saying, I guess they have been practicing... lol

I hope we can come out and make it tough for them again next weekend as well !

Redemption Part 2

Game vs Aces again
We faced the same team again today and right off the bat our boys were in their zone and putting pucks on net.... We Switched up one of our Defensemen for one of the Offense that played Defense before and that and it just seemed to click.... we played a dump and chase game for the first period and wore the other team down a little... We did end up down 1-0 going into the 2nd and he had faced a good 10 shots, we end up tying it up in the 2nd and getting the go ahead goal and everything was looking good until there was a scramble in the crease and one of our defensemen put his hand on the puck to pass it to the goalie and we got called for the penalty shot.... the shooter came in and got a nice deek and scored. 3rd period was a blank... both goalies did very well in this period and we were really pushing for the win, but it just didnt happen in the 3rd.... overtime goes well and we got some shots on their goalie and they got some shots on the Terd.... We go to the shootout and go 9 rounds and Terd shuts them all down and we finally get the goal and won the game.... this was a great win for Terd and a great win for the team ! They definately earned it !

When you go into OT you get a point and if you win the shootout you get another so it worksout good. Be on the safe side and win the game in regulation.:D

the kids grew a bit plus we're all the same age nothing reeeally major i had to adjust to....some got harder shots but thats about it

Im going to ask that he start practicing with the Bantams soon or at least with 3 months to go in the season, get him a good transition.

over the summer get some older kids, and rent the ice, and just do normal drills but with better, older shooter. it will proley help the transition. Keep in mind his skill will progress to, not just the shooters;)

no doubt.... his assistant coach was from colorado college, former d1 player... he takes shots from him all the time and some former juniors who assist coach througout the org....

we will keep working with him.

Im very proud of the Terd, he had some compliments from 2 other coaches who were there watching our 2 teams play. One of which who we beat early in the season, He said Terd was THE best goalie in our division that he has faced.... that is a compliment in my book.

His GAA went from 4.41 down to 3.30 and his sv % went from .846 to .898

I want him to be down to 2.79 ish GAA if not better, and then a .920 ish sv %

I think that would be very respectable in his league.

Here is a vid clip I saved so far from this last game, he did a 2 pad stack at the end of the vid, the clip is like 1 min long, so u can fast forward a good 30 or 40 seconds, and at first I was like what are you doing, but it worked and cut off the bottom portion of the net perfectly so hey it worked.

Terd vs Hitman Cashill Part 2
The game started off about the same, several shots in the first, ended up letting in 3 goals in the first period and the whole team looked slow, we gave up some chances and opened lanes in the second period and down 5-0 going into the third period and after giving up 2 more we scored at the end and the game finished 7-1 he faced 32 shots and looked sloppy in all reguards .... the Hitman have pwned Terd twice now !

This was a game against his old team from last season, turned out to be a pretty good game overall, goals from both teams and we ended up 4-3 overall. Terd faced 38 shots all together and the game would have been tied but we had a goal dissallowed in the first period.

this was the next morning vs the same team, and there is a player on their team who scores most of their goals, he was lighting the lamp for them this morning again and we ended up on the short side of the game with a 4-1 loss 31 shots faced and Terd will have 1 more chance to beat this team in a couple weeks.

Terd vs Eusless Blackhawks part 2

This was a great game overall, the Blackhawks have a kid who I kid you not, is about 6'2 and is 11 he is a monster but a great stickhandler and has a great shot. The first game of the season we suprised this team and beat them 2-1 I believe it was. Terd faced 43 shots on this game and we notched 1 goal and we lost 3-1 He played well and held a lot of rebounds and the goals that were scored were not protecting his posts.... which we went over the footage and discussed afterwards.

Terd vs Cashill Redemption...


This was game on for Terd, we talked about playing more agressive and not playing as deep against this team, the last two times he played agains this team we allowed at least 5 goals. The game started off well and we went 0-0 going into the 2nd period, we notched 2 goals and kept the goose egg going till about 1:45 left and then we had a blunder of a play with a forward not wanting to dump the puck and the kid who scores most of their goals walks in on a bad change and notched a nice goal on Terd... We kept it at 1 goal and walked away with a nice win against a very fast and scoring team.

Terd vs Eusless Blackhawks part 3

The ice was tilted and it wasnt towards the other goalie.... Terd was playing out and taking shots left and right, and that was about right, The big guy on their team was playing less agressive and was protecting the puck and making great plays, Terd let in 1 in the first period after about 20 shots, 2nd period we ended up with a couple matching penalties and had a couple power plays that never left our end of the ice, Terd let in 2 goals that were scrambled in front of the net and then 1 that I can only describe as "the perfect pass" it was an awesome pass thru traffic and right to an open guy in front who magically no one covered. we crawled to the third period about 45 shots - 4 shots on their goal. Terd was tired and you could tell, but his saves were still up to par. Third period comes and didnt go fast enough, but we managed to give Terd somewhat of a break and got 4 shots on goal this period and Terd faced 18 more and we gave up 1 more and ended the game 5-0 giving another goalie a shutout that he truly didnt have to earn. The good thing about this game was this helped Terd's GAA and SV% go down.... 63 shots later :)

Terd vs Canadians part 3

Well this game was looking like a carry over from the game the day before and we ended up down 2-0 going into the 2nd period, and then going into the third we were down 3-0 but whatever it was that our coach said to the boys going into the third seemed to spark something as we scored right off the bat and got some life into us, we scored a couple minutes later and traded shots on goal all throughout the third, we scored 2 more goals and Terd was then faced to make some saves to kee the win. shots ended up 39-16. It was nice to snatch a win in regulation and this gives us some momentum going into this next week and when we go to MN for new years to play against some northern exposure ! :D

Terd vs MN 310 Shots faced in 5 games, our team managed to get 35 total on all 5 teams we faced :( Terd still managed a good 90% SV% .... considering all the teams we played against were higher caliber, I can accept that.

Giving a note of how the game went today...

Today we played against the Austin Roadrunners.

First period was looking very scary.
we went down 3-0

First goal there was a colision in the crease and the boy lost the stick. He was matching up with the shooter and the pass from the corner, Our coach, LORD KNOWS WHY starts yelling " pick up your stick, just pick up your stick"
so he does and he has a shot ripped right past him as he does. The coach admitted that was his bad, and I talked to him after the game about when you should and shouldnt pick up your stick as a goalie when the play is still in your end.
2nd goal there was a scramble in the crease and the boy was on his blocker side and the other team had a guy in between him IN THE CREASE and the other player with the puck, essentially he couldnt get to the point to make the save... I would have assumed this would have been goaltender interference. but no, the player shot it in the empty net so to speak.

3rd goal was a shot that was due to what keeks calls the 9 iron, the puck hit and went straight up and bounced in behind him... I laughed.

2nd period rolls around and we had another scramble in the crease and another goal was scored, this was after he bobbled a what looked to be a nice glove save
this was after we put one on the board, but at that time I feared it was too little too later.
score was now 4-1.
we squeeze thru till the 3rd period and Terd stood on his head and made some great saves.
3rd period starts and we ended up in the other teams zone a good amount of time, Terd had to stop a couple key breakaways and killed off a penalty that seemed to never end. But what I was proud of was he finally notched an assist after all his passing and hard work with puck play... he finally got one ! :D The funny part was the kid that got the puck from his pass he was left hand shot, came in the right side of the ice. gets to their blue line with a defensemen in front of them... hit the breaks and turned and backhanded it, it went high up and the goalie was watching it..... all the way in ! LOL it was a fluke goal, but I dont care, it went it and that was all that mattered .... after that his team seemed to get a spark and notched another goal and we went to OT , made it through that and got to the shootout where he stopped all 3 shooters and we scored on our second one so after Terd stopped the third there was no reason for us to put the third shooter out ! :) Anywho we won 5-4 in the shootout
