Oh boy...
So turns out I was drafted by a team in the league I tried out for. I thought they had 4 goalies but from what I heard, changes wanted to be made.
I had to miss the first game due to my brothers wedding. We lost 5-4. Last week we lost 6-2. It was 3-2 going into the third but then the flood gates opened. Not the best game of my life but not the worst. After the game all I heard from the coach was how we suck and we are terrible, real inspirational ****.
I MUST step up my play and steal the next game. I see this team going down fast if nothing is done. Hopefully I can get back into rythm and start playing solid games again.
In a completely unrelated topic, we drank two 30 packs after the game.

We tied last night. 7-7. I must have seen 50+ shots.
Made some great stops but then let in a crappy little back hander to go down 7-6. That really aggravated me to all hell.
The team played a little better offensively but needs SEVERE help defensively. All I saw was white shirts out in fron of my net and we wear green. Back checking is slow if not non existant.
Good thing is I see a ton of shots and get really involved in the game. I'm going to have to step it up even more next week. Team in our league surprisingly picked up some kid after the draft and his last name is Pandolfo.......Talk about your ringer.

Defence is a massive issue on my rec side too - problem is, no one seems to care enough to back me when I speak up in the dressing room.
I'd like to think I have taken up some kind of Brodeur type team leadership role in the past 12 months or so and am trying to guide the team, but at the end of the day they need to want to change ti really take the next step.
Problem is, other teams who we once would have battered have worked on their game and got better whilst we stand still.
My aim is still to move up and play league, but I fear for the teams future if/when I am gone....

After the first at the bench I said something about them getting back and playing better D and I got a "Shut up and stop the puck" (kind of joking but he kind of wasnt)
So I did just that. I want to help the team and work with my D but if I have to play like its a pickup league and just worry about myself them so be it.

All my D get volunteered to play at-least one training session in goal...
We then have a frank discussion about their role

You never see them during the game - but mysteriously appear in the locker room to tell you:-
"FFS! All you gotta do is catch tha puck dumbass "

Got our first W tonight. Team played a lot better offensively and continues to jell nicely. Defense in the first period was outstanding but with only 8 guys, they got tired and hence the defence went away.
We ended up winning 6-5. I didnt have a fantastic game but continue to improve from week to week. I lost 7 lbs also so far from my summer time antics. Things are looking up.

Yeah, pretty much the same - It's frustrating as against some stronger teams they buck up and play much better. We still lose, but at least the effort is there!
Against some sides more around our level they fall apart and get lazy again though and I just end up getting f***ed off with them
I keep trying to get the message across that if we train like chumps we play like chumps!!!

Lost again last night against the #1 team. 10 - 8. I saw about 50 - 60 shots. We have a good team but the problem is we only have 8 guys every night. The other team had 12. This league is way to good to have only 8 guys.
I played solid but took a slapshot high off the chest. I have a nice little bruise but atleast I stoppped it. 10 goals but it was a shootout the whole game.

Lost again, 7-4. had 10 guys this week but couldnt pull it together. I played average and nothing really spectacular happened.
This team just gives up way to many odd man rushes. Slot man is always open or its a 3 on 1, etc. We have some great forwards but we need another D-man. We play 3 d as it is and 1 is not really a D-man. He keeps backing up to much and screening me. We talkec about it after and he wants to learn but in this league its touch to learn on the fly.
Long season though and everyone makes the playoffs.

Victory!!!!
WE actually won last night. Another barn burner though, 7-6. Our offense is picking up but again to many odd man rushes. I definitely played a lot better and held us in there.
We had like 10 penalties. 2 times 5 on 3. Stupid. They didnt score on any of them but they did get a shorthanded goal. figures.

Tied last night.
We have shown again and again that we can beat any team in this league but fail too. Up 8-7 with a 25 seconds left, puck gets kicked out to the point. Everyone charges him and leaves a guy off the right post wide open. Slap pass to the guy off the post (never even saw him) and easy goal.
They had 12 guys, we had 8. I played decent making some great saves but a few I wish I had back. We just have to stay competetive until the playoffs. Everyone makes it and its best 2 out of 3. I think we can pull up a playoff upset but the team has to believe (and showup).
