I packed my bag on Halloween to go to pick-up . I get to pick -up and discover I don't have my cup . So one guy had an extra player cup which he offered to me. After much deliberation (1 min.) I decided to suit up. I did use a lower wider stance and actually played well. Only one shot came sort of close but was absorbed by the pants.
Any of you encountered this problem and what was the solution ? Phone book ?
hub cap ?

I've worn a players cup, however I beefed it up by folding my towel up multiple times and hooking it in over the pelvis area and had it hang over the players cup. Worked like a charm if a bit bulky.

Happened last season for me. I forgot to put it back in my bag after I aired out my stuff. I took the elbow pad off my chest protector and wrapped an extra sock around it for more protection. It worked great, I was kinda scared throughout the game though. I wear under armour pants so that helped keep it in place. It really wasn't that big of a deal.

I kept and cleaned up my old cup and just leave it in my bag. I've only had to use it once in the last 2 years but it was nice to have a piece of equipment that I had faith in. More over, I'm used to it, so I wasn't constantly feeling like something wasn't right in a very important area.

My cup never leaves my bag unless I'm wearing it. :p I air the bag out with the cup lying in it.

Now, I have 2 cups in my bag just in case. But a couple of years ago, when I was playing Midget Hockey, I had to borrow a cup from a forward and I used a hockey sock to beef it up. yes it was bulky, but it was squeezable.
Got a shutout that night! LOL

Yikes Flounder! I'd have to be very very drunk to even consider playing without one; Murphy's Law being what it is. Like Gregan, I've done the borrowed cup and towel trick, but I think that's only happened once or twice, and never in the last few years. I'm usually pretty good about packing. The one thing I forget every once in a while are my knee pads, but even that's been a while.

Wads of paper towel and a roll of stick tape... :( though that was ball hockey, would never want to try that for ice. Wound up getting super lucky in that one and pinched a shot in between my thighs about 1 inch from the sensative bits. Was an absolut hammer of a shot too.
I'm sure everyone is aware, but would strongly caution about using a players cup. When I played PeeWee our goalie forgot his cup at home and decided to wear a players cup for practice. Well, there was a guy on our team we nicknamed Moose (he really was... only guy I've ever seen hit the post with the top of his head hard enough to crack his helmet and get up and skate away) took a shot and Murhpy reared his ugly head. Our goalie took the slapper right in the crotch and both of his boys retreated up up and away. One month later one of them decided to make a re-appearance followed by his friend a couple weeks later... end result, one of them needed to be removed... :O

One of thousands things I learned from reading Jacque Plante's book on goaltending was that he packed and unpacked his gear in his bag the same way every time. It wasn't about superstition, but habit. For me, each piece of gear has it's own spot in my bag. If I do forget something, the rest of the stuff doesn't fit properly. Kind of a built in double check.
on shots i know are goingthere. i bring my stick of the ice and let the puck it it

I used a player cup for years... Then I got married and my wife bought me a goalie cup! Said she was just trying to protect her investment!
True story!
I've never played without a cup. Don't know what I would do if I didn't have it. I guess it would depend on the importance of the game being played. Then again, I'm done having kids... I tuck my jock into the leg of my pants while they are airing out. I won't forget it unless I also forget my pants.
