So, for Christmas I got a new Hackva mask, and I have to say it is awesome! I got it two weeks ago, and have had a chance to test it out, so here goes:

Customer service was a 10 of 10. I emailed hackva about time needed/styles/color ect, and got a responce the following morning. Cindy has continued to check with me to make sure I was happy with what was done. My girlfriend who was getting the mask for me ended up buying one off the shelf from The Goalie Crease. Cindy emailed to check if we had recieved it, if we were happy, and to ask for some photo's, which will be on the way shortly. The guy's at the Crease get prop's too, for the help they gave my girlfriend with the order, and the new dangler.

Protection: 10 of 10, I got the mask early and have used it in 5 games already. While in Atlanta I faced the hardest shot I have ever taken off the ole noggin, and though I knew I got hit, I barely felt it. Coming out of a Sportmask mage 2, it is also very quiet. The padding in the Hackva is great, takes a little time for it to mold to your head, but once it does, it is wonderful.

Durability: Having taken 5 or so shots to this brain bucket, and the only mark has been a rubber streak that I have polished off, I can say that I am thrilled with this thing! 10 of 10

Comfort, 9 of 10. Takes a little time getting broken in, but once it does, by far it is the best mask I have owned.

Value: OFF THE CHART!!!! http://www.goaliestore.com/board/images/smilies/biggrin.gif Having had 4 other masks (TPS, NXI, NXI, Sportmask) I can say that for the money you cannot get a better mask. In fact, for a lot more money you will have a hard time beating this.

All in all, buy a Hackva, bar none. They have a customer for life from me.

Yeah I love mine. Gabe and Cindy were great to deal with. I used it for two games, got a shutout and then a shoot-out win.

Then with a slight tear in my eye (like sending a kid off to college) it went into a box and sent on its way to Tony Jarrett at Masked Expressions to work his magic on it.

I can't wait to post pictures when it's done!

But the helmet, the thing is a tank... I'm sold for life too!

Our season ended down here, and it is questionable if we are going to have ice anymore. But, after 1/2 of a season I have to say that I am still in love with this mask. It has done very well! I took a few hits off of it, no headaches, no ringning in the ears, life is good! Only down side is that my girlfriend gave it to me for Christmas and we recently broke up. Going to have a hard time putting this on. Oh well, life goes on.

Thanks for the encouragement- I always seem to play better when things like this happen though, too bad the season is over, I would be playing like a pro

Yeah that's tough. I was never good at getting over 'that special someone'. The good news is there is more than one girl out there that is the right girl for you.

Do your thing, be yourself and everything will be OK.

Thanks again, doing much better, of course when you find some things out, it does make letting go easier

:)Good review GoalieMedic. So much so that I decided to purchase a red Texalium Hackva for my son to replace the WJD mask he was wearing. After two sessions with the new lid my son loves it.He had worn the WJD mask for two years with no complaints. The only problem I noticed was that the cage started to slip down on the mask because there were no clips installed at the top of the cage, only on the side.I solved that by installing two stainless clips at the top.Something that should have been a manufacturing issue at WJD but was not addressed.Anyho, that being the only issue with the mask my son would have been happy to continue using it had I had not seen the cool Hackva Red Texalium mask online.I showed to him and he was hooked. It seems to be lighter than the WJD and certainly seems to be better built. For a mass produced mask there are no flaws or blemishes on the shell inside or out.All in all,I believe I got my monies worth,$400 american, and would recomend a Hackva mask to anyone interested in getting a high quality product for not alot of dough.

picked up a red taxalium recently myself.

oddly enough i have not taken a puck to the mask yet, only a stick and it was to the flat side of the mask so it was loud. but that has been that way with every mask i have owned.

love the mask!

Thanks, and I am glad that it helped. I hope your son likes it as well as I like mine. I have been toying with getting another. Working the Cindy back in Dec was a pure joy and if they were that way during the Christmas rush, I can only imagine that they would be that way every day. As for the lid, I have played against a couple of ex-NHL'ers and took one to the noggin' that had to have been 90+mph. Other than a greasy smear that I buffed off, not even so much as a mark in the clear coat. I was wearing a Mage 2 prior to this, and taking a hit in this thing is a lot better. Good Luck to your son, and happy netminding

I am in the market for a new mask and so far I've managed to try on a few.

So far what I have tried:
RBK 7k (liked it because of the fit)
Itech NV7 (nice looking mask but too tight on the jaw for me)
Sportmask Ricochet (Nice fit and good quality)

How do these masks compare to the hackva. I beleive they are all in the same price range (roughly $350 CAD w/o paint).

well, i have tried and used two of them, Havent used the RBK yet, but
really
imo i dont think any are as nice as the hackva,

i have taken some nasty shots off of it, and well, i dont get rings or what not.. and the mask is in perfect order still,

i really like the hackva

another one you should look at, the style is not what some people like, but i love it,
is a

Picked up a Hackva for my son last week. He's now up in Shelbourne breaking it in all week at hockey camp. Will get more feedback when I pick him up on Sunday.

Quite a steal, regional retailer had their annual warehouse sale. Picked up a plain white one for just under $280USD.

Now the fun really begins, he wants to customize it. I've thrown a few ideas at Acmeguy already. Now in the "concept stage" and have a friend sketching some stuff out on templates to help things progress. Will let you know how we progress......

Where is that local store, I see you are in Ontario. I am in Oakville actually. I emailed Hackva and the place they suggested me to go to is called Majer Hockey and its about an hour and 10 minute drive from my house (35 mins from my work). I may go there but I think they are listing the mask at 349 CAD. Any dollars I could save might go nicely towards some new goalie pants!

The place I went to was Perani's; their a regional chain in Southwest Ontario and Michigan. I think the closest one for you is London, but they probably won't honour that price. Every summer, they have a big summer clearance sale and everything is there. A veritable "sporgy", even for goalies. There has to be over 100 sets of pads to check out and racks of other goalie stuff. I think the sale goes until the end of the week, might be something to consider next year if you want to go for a drive. :)

I did a lot of researching on pricing. The best Canadian price I was seeing Don Simmons, in Fort Erie, and The Goalie Crease up in Newmarket/Richmond Hill. Both have websites, and you can compare pricing right away. I will be the first to admit that there might be someone even better, but we visit Toronto frequently, so it seemed an obvious place to look.

Word to the wise, make sure that the Hackva shape suits your face. Nothing's worse than dropping that amount of cash and realizing you're not comfortable.

The other thing I like about Hackva right away was that Gabe was actually at a Perani's down in Michigan and was custom fitting foam for any of the people who bought them there. I thought that was pretty classy myself and I've sent him notes about getting extra pads, and he seemed more than willing to help. Any note I've sent to Hackva has always been responded to quickly.

Again, my boy is away at hockey camp right now breaking it in. If he needs to get the padding adjusted, we might just make the "pilgrimage" to the factory in Scarbourough, and just get it tweaked.

Good luck on finding your perfect bucket :D

Thanks for the info.

Yeah, I want to try on the Hackva. So far I've tried on 4 or 5 masks and the RBK 7K and the Sportmask Ricochet fit me the best. Based on all the amazing feedback and the pricepoint of the Hackva it is something I need to try on before making a final decision.

I've been playing now for 6 months and a Hackva is the only mask I've owned. I like it but the fit along my jaw could be a bit better. If I were to get some of those maltese gel pads could that help the fit?

Aside from that the mask has held up fine, other than the pain chips and the new cage I have on order. few weeks back I took a one timer and it bent the cage and broke a weld on my cats eye.

OT, but will a cert cage hold up better than a cats eye?

Send a note to Gabe at Hackva, he'll tell you what to do with regards to taking some pics and he'll suggest what extra padding you'll need and send it out. Might be worth sending a note out?

Yes, you could certainly use gel from Maltese to tune the fit or your Hackva.
