So for my first pair of pads, i've decided to go with a pair of Vaughn Vaults. Now I know some of you may be thinking that for a beginner, that's quite a lot of money to spend, but I tried it with my friend's gear and I fell in love with it. I went out and got ALL my gear (most of it from Craigslist) and now here we are.
Comfort - 5/5
I've been playing a lot of drop-in ice with the same group of guys from week to week and as you know, no one likes to play defence in a drop-in scrimmage. After a 2 hour session, I usually have gotten a ridiculous number of shots against. Dropping down, hit in various places, never felt a thing. Your knee is very snug and the knee stacks let you drop down with ease for those of you who have nagging knee issues.
Mobility - 4/5
I've never had a major problem with them so far. However, i've noticed that sometimes in a major scramble, because of the padding on the outside of the heel kind of flares out in relation to the rest, it sometimes gets caught when i'm trying to get back up after having dropped down.
Look - 4/5
I love the texture and pattern on the front of these. Apart from the white on the landing gear (which gives off a sort of Michelin man type look) i'm loving them.
