Hello, I'm brand new to the site. I have a 13 yr old playing AAA currently who is in need of some new pads (getting too small 35 in RBK 8k's). He's currently 6'1'' and of the Luongo Cleminson build - tall, thin and all arms and legs. We live fairly close to Scott's place of business and will be visiting him in the next couple of weeks for measurements and to kick a few tires. I would like know what the main differences are between the Nexus and Fury pads. Especially which pad would be better for 5 hole coverage (did I mention all legs and arms :)).

Thanks in advance.

If he like his RBK, I will say Nexus without a doubt. All you need for a Nexus to feel like a Rbk, is to ask for a stiffer boot break and stiffer, but still flexible knee breaks.

Maybe ask for something to hold the kneelifts tight together.

I think the Fury pad feels more like a traditional pad. It has the look of a box pad, but feels more like what Ryan Miller wears. A pad for more traditional goalies.

Coming from RBK PS I's and and then II's (non-Turco), I had absolutely no problem transitioning to Nexus pads, even with the standard breaks Scott built into my set. They're lighter, more flexible, and thinner than either of the RBK sets I used before.

BTW, 13 yo and 6'1 is insane. He's got at least another 3 inches to grow into.

I agree 100% with Chakal on the Fury pads. Prior to my Fury set I had worn Heaton Helite IVs, Heaton 10's and BHG Eyelite 10's (almost Identical to the pads Ryan Miller wears), and though the Fury has the outer appearance of a box pad, the internals are nearly identical to all my traditional Heaton pads. I had no problems with with the transition to the Fury at all.

I think the Fury are excellent pads for people who likes more traditional pads.

I had a lot of people asking which pads to get to replace their Heaton 10, Koho 580 (original, not the ones made at the same time as the 590), Vaughn Vision 5500, Sher-Wood 9960, Brian's Beast, Bauer Supreme and I always say Battram Fury.

They don't believe me most of the time, but if only they would be able to try them.

Thanks guys, sounds like he'll probably like the Nexus better as he had the 7K's prior to his current 8K's. And I agree 6'1'' is insane. I'm hoping he's mostly done going up as he is already taller than me and that 5 hole isn't getting any smaller ;).
