PAW p1000 pad review;
Just a bit of background. I’m 18, no talent goalie who only plays for fun. Ive worn itech 4.8s, Sherwood shetlite 6s, ******* 992s, ******* 993s, battram furys and now PAWs.
The Ordering Process; Anyone who has sold anything to me knows I'm an ******* of a customer… and message you 32532 times with changes etc. Sara did amazing job with customer service and managed not to bite my head off for being a horrible customer =)! She was amazing to deal with, was great with suggestions. She worked hard to get them done in time, and was great to deal with for shipping. This was hard since I wanted to get them when I was in the states on my way back from a cruise, and that was a time span of 1-2 days on the way back. She managed to make it work.
Im a very complicated customer. I wanted to be kool. Because im kool I wanted cordura on the pads to save weight! Im overweight as it is! Im a fattass I don’t want my pads to way more! Lol. So she did that. I also got weartekish material on the boot. And there were a bunch more of small(probably annoying) details too. She came through every detail was done amazingly.
First Sight; When I first got the box, it was freeken light. The pads work out to like 35+3s. They felt lighter then my 32+1 battram furys. I looked over then and they looked amazing. The graphic was simplistic but it was nicely done. I couldn’t find anything wrong with them. They were really thin two which made me really happy. They remind me of the Viper Evolutions a pad I was very strongly considering. Now the biggest complaint I have with the pads… the straps are sooooooo long. Sara you could use have the length of the straps that u did! Lol Bonus is that I’ve got basically a bunch of extra straps=). The straps had lots of options for positioning which is good. I like something very similar to LOTC does for strapping. Very simplistic. The straps take literally 5 seconds to change where they are attached. Overall took me less then 10 minutes per pad to get strapping down right.
The leg chanel is very very busy to begin with. However everything is easily removable, so I took a few minutes taking out a few pieces. After I was done I strapped them on and they felt great. It was a week before I got them on the ice.
First ice time;
The first time on the ice it was a bit weird skating with +3s. But ½ way through it felt fine. Then pads felt just as light as my furys were. When doing my butterflies I overshot the first few times using them. Once I got used to it I felt amazing out there. Sara added in an offset toe system. This was my first time using them, my side to side butterflies felt amazing. I could move back and forth with ease, stop a slide one way and push the opposite way on the spot almost seamlessly. I felt like I had talent for once!!... really it was just the pads. Lol.
The pads are fairly flexible… but there is something, Sara refers to it as a “stop” that doesn’t allow it to flex past a certain point. I have no clue what she did, but it was amazing. These pads are stiffer then I wanted, but I’m glad they are. They play way better then if I would have gotten what I wanted.
At the start of my second ice time with them my friend noticed something. The knee area kind of arcs inwards a bit. Kind of a “)”. I don’t know why they do so, but its only when I’m standing up wearing them, not in Butterfly or in crouch. I don’t think its an issue just looks a bit weird.
Overall I’ve had no major issues with these pads. The knee thing, and the long straps are my only things I dislike but those are very easy things to fix.
Durability;
As im the first one(besides sara) to play with these pads these are pretty much unknown. Id say ive played 20-40 hours with them with no wear I can detect with my eye. So so far so good.
Pros;
-High Quality
-Light
-Thin
-Flexible
-The “stop” is a great feature
-great customer service
Cons;
-Long straps!
-the knee looks weird when standing up.
Durability- 10/10 so far through 20-40hours
Customer Service- 11/10
Quality- 9/10
Design- 10/10
Overall- 10/10
These are the best pads ive owned, and I cant even compare ****** or even battram to them. The only companies id concider other then PAW for my next set of pads would be smith or viper… but still probably coming back to sara.
