View Full Version : Win A Set Of Battram Pads!
Scott Battram
03-21-2009, 12:27 PM
Just throwing this idea out there for the members at goalielife.
Would you consider paying 15.00 as an entry free for a chance to win a set of pads??
If there was enough people interested to take part so that we can at least come close to the cost of a set of pads, I would consider doing something like this a few times per year.
Let me know if you think something like this would work!

Absopositutely! I'm the original gear 'whore', and I'd always be looking for another set. Don't know if you can beat the comfort of my Tony the Tiger set Scott, they'd have to be built exactly the same:D
Actually, if I got them, I'd probably donate them to a deserving young goalie in the area to have. Can you imagine the thrill of a kid getting a set of pads (brand new) when he/she has been scraping buy and needing new equipment?
How about the GLBB all taking on the idea that if they need them and they win them, fine. If they DON'T need them, to find a deserving Young Goalie in the area - and providing them for them :D (made to their specs).
It would be a win-win all the way around! :D

Ok, sounds good so far, I will figure out how we will work the payments (probably through paypal) then I can just hold the money in that account and if we do not get close enough to the cost of a set of pads then it can easilly be refunded.
No limit on numbers of entries...
I think the way we will pick the winner will be to videotape the drawing and post a video letting the folks know who won!
I think this could be a good thing to do on a regular basis as well if it works out well, we can do it a few times a year... or mix it up and do a set of gloves next time etc...

Scott - any chance that we could donate something to charity again?
As much as I personally benefited from the last auction/competition, I couldn't help feeling that we could have done more to make some cash for a worthwhile cause
A set of gear for $15 is awesome - but a set of gear for $15 + $15 donation is just as good IMHO
(ps I genuinely respect that $15 is allot of cash to our younger members but hear me out!)

It's amazing how I'll niggle over this with myself yet drop $8 on a tonic with a splash of gin...
I'm probably in.
Also, as far as the charity goes, I'd say that Scott has the right to do whatever he wants with the money. If you happen to win and you think someone deserves a little gift, give them the pads. It's nice to put an official tag on things, but giving a set of pads with little afterthought can be just as helpful to someone who needs and wants but can't afford.
Also, I'm not referring to myself at all, as I'd be able to buy pads if I wasn't a monetary idiot.

03-25-2009, 09:32 AM
Wow, this has taken off well! I am surprised...
I dont think there will be any problem meeting the cost of the set of pads, I will keep the contest open for a few weeks, and then we will calculatethe odds of winning, I may need the help of some of the smarter people here to figure that out for me... but I think my basic math skills should be able to calculate it, but it will be WAY better odds than the lottery or scratch and win tickets etc... heck, if every member here only bought 1 ticket, the odds would be only 1 in 1200 or so!
Slapshot011
03-25-2009, 09:39 AM

Well, i'm poor and I doubt my parents would let me enter using their paypal but i'll gladly lend my services to work out the odds!
Brand New Nexus/Fury Pads - $999.00
So, $999.00 / 15 = 66.6
That means we need 67 people minimum to sign up for Scott to give out a set of pads without custom graphics! If you throw the custom design price in as a bonus, assuming it costs $100.00 then you would need...
$1,099.00 / 15 = 73.26
That means we need 74 people minimum to sign up for Scott to give out a set of pads with custom graphics of your choice!
Golly, I would love to have a new set of pads, or gloves. My old second-hand Itech 4.8 X-Factors are definitely not cutting it. Stingers in the palm galore.

Looks like one of the members here posted the raffle details on another bulletin board, I guess said bulletin board doesn't like to help out their membership by allowing them to get in on an awesome draw!
Then again, the same place "temporarily" locked the Battram thread about 4 weeks ago and still have yet to unlock it! hahah
Where else could you get a chance to win practically free gear??
We gave away a free set of pads back in October, auctioned a Custom made "Joker" blocker for charity, Acmeguy gave a mask, Junior gave away a Jersey, Keeks some DVD's and a Private lesson!
I enjoy giving back to the membership here, and I think some of the other "manufacturers or instructors" have similar beliefs! The FREE Clinic Keeks is putting on again this year is an example of this!
Stuff like this is something I enjoy doing, if someone who may otherwise not have been able to afford a new set of pads wins, I am even happier!
As the membership grows here, I hope we can offer something similar to these drawings on a regular basis.
Also thanks to the boys over at GEW (Mark and Scott Simmons), as the post announcing this raffle is still there.

I suspect the hook would be for the winner to buy a matching set of gloves ;) :)
I'm sure that that's the idea. But, if the auction runs longer and enough money is brought in to pay for the full price of gloves in addition to the full price of pads, what difference does it make? Other than diminishing our chances, that is... :p
Scott Battram
04-01-2009, 08:30 PM

I have only ever used paypal to buy something on ebay.
How would I get money to Scott for the draw? Would I need Scott's address or contact info?
Thanks for your help.

I donated as well. I don't need the pads, but I do feel good about being able to help that family while they're going through such a rough time.

I agree, I'm not confident in my chances of winning, but the chances of helping are at 100%.

The money wont go directly to the family, they lost their daughter 3 years ago, the golf tournament they have each year in her memory raises money to go to the childrens make a wish organization.

Good enough for me. There's plenty of people who have to suffer unspeakable losses every day, or deal with hardships I can't imagine, and they deserve all the help they can get.

in US send US
in Canada send Canadian
Scott,
when I originally sent in my $15 payment for the raffle, I assumed that you meant 15(CAD) and used PayPal to convert the currency from USD to CAD.
But after reading this, I went ahead and sent the additional amount to add upto 15(USD). Even though it was just an extra 2.53(USD), I didn't want to short change the cause.
Thanks for doing this!

I only sent 15 Canadian as well.
I'll correct that.
Sorry for the multiple payment thing Scott.

We will be getting the entrants into the ballot box over the long holiday weekend and then making the draw sometime next week. I will need to see when my neighbour is available to pull the winning entry. I assume he will be around all weekend, so possibly Monday will work!

Perhaps, Mr. Battram has absconded to South America with the funds and is living like a Prince in a country with no extradition laws!:p
Beware a follow up contest for matching gloves, as that would just be code for an addition to his royal mansion estate in said unknown South American country.;)

Now that I am back from my South American getaway, I will have a neighbour pull the winning ticket this evening or later this afternoon and we will be posting the winner of the draw tomorrow (Tuesday April 14th) at 21:00 EST (9 PM).

I will plan to do a few of these per year, I think that next up will be a set of gloves, then possibly an upper body pad (not sure how much interest there would be in that though...) then do a final draw at the end of the year for an entire combo. (Pads, Gloves, Upper Body Pad)
Looking forward to seeing who will win this time around!

Congrats keith, it would be a shame if you don't pay the small up charge for custom graphics, and make Scott work his magic.
And a great job done by your daughter Scott, defeniatly a better choice than your lawyer neighbour who was a no show. Your wife also did a good job as the master of ceremonies !!!!!
You should do this kind of stuff a couple of times a year. We are all spoiled here on the board to have a great guy like Scott running the show, and the customer service is second to none by far. Is that enough ass kissing to win the next raffle??? LOL

Just curious scott;
What was that magic number? was it the cost of a pad? was it the price of a pad? was it somewhere in between? This is just me being curious; and wondering how many etneries there were so we could know the odds.

The odds were under 1 in 100, we will be issuing a cheque at the annual Golf Tournament for Ainsleigh in July on behalf of Goalielife.com.
I am game to do this a few times per year, as long as the cost of the gear and shipping is covered the raffles will be a go!

It's also the best, and one of the cheapest forms of advertising. Happy customers amount to referrals, and future orders, and so on...I'm definately in for the C/A, gloves raffle, even if I don't win. At least I know the proceeds go to a worthy cause.
