View Full Version : Battram Action Shots!!!

I couldn't find a thread on this. So I thought I'd start one.
Here are couple shots from our practice last night. I've never had any formal hockey or goalie training, so I decided to join a beginners group held by Hockey North America. They supposedly will bring in some goalie coaches to work with us. So far its been mostly shooting and skating drills. We have a scrimmage for the last 15-30 minutes.
The first pic is from a 2-0 drill, they were still at the other Blue line. the other one is from the scrimmage but the puck is in the other end.
I'll post more "REAL" action shots when I get some.
Cheers.

Just went to a slightly longer paddle in fact, must be the angle. I do go down but like most fat, out of shape tenders, if I can stay on my feet and not have to spend 30 seconds trying to get up, I will!
Crap, I guess I gave away the answer to who it was in the photos, not that any of you didn't already know anyway! ;)

Been playing with the same guys for about 5 years now at this semi-private pickup in Escondido. Brought my camera and asked my buddy to take some shots. Not real Action Action shots but most of those were so blurry you could just see colors flying by.
Will not include the 5 shots of water bottles and other unmentionables. :D

Glad you guys like the jerseys. I never get compliments on the ice, because the guys I play with have no idea what teams they are.
The nets at our winter rink are bad, but the nets at our summer rink are atrocious. I used to check for holes before games, a strategy which paid off once when I got a goal disallowed by showing the ref the hole in the side of the net where the puck went through. But now, there are so many holes, I don't even bother. Two weeks ago, a guy came in on a breakaway. I didn't see where the puck went until I saw it hit the end board behind the net. Turns out it was a goal.
This is the same rink that doesn't turn on the parking lot lights at night, covers holes in the boards with cardboard, hasn't repaired their skate sharpener in over five years, etc. Unfortunately, we either play there or we don't play.

Oooh... I'm not in China.
Geographically close, culturally and economically, not so much.
Just got back an hour or so ago from our club team's game against the Hiroshima All-Stars. Outmanned 18-10, we have two guys in their 50s and me at 40, and we managed a tie.
I wore my Battram Retros for the first time in a game. They're shorter and narrower than my old pads, but they've been lucky for me so far. I even -- for the first time ever -- got a compliment on my gear. A guy from Nagasaki University, who played after us, was amazed by my retros. After I let him touch them (I said, "soft, huh/yawarakai, ne") he said, "retro?"
I just smiled.:D

I'm a big DIYer, so I buy the blank goal-cut jerseys (mostly Athletic Knit, K1 and SP) and crests separately, then affix the crests and lettering/numbering myself. I get most of the crests on eBay, and make some of them myself with bulk tackle twill and an Xacto knife.
If you want to give it a shot, I'd be happy to give you some pointers.

My Jets (or 76-78 Rangers) jersey blanks were made by K1. I'm not sure where to find them in Canada, but you can get them in the US through Hockey Jerseys Direct. Their customer service leaves a lot to be desired, but it's the only place I know of online that sells them.
I made one of the Jets crests myself and found the others on eBay.

Thanks for the info about the Jets jersey. Thats a tough one to track down. I'm still not seeing that one on the site you suggested. I've done a few jerseys myself. I just wish I could sew so it would keep the cost down. I've done 2 University of Maine jerseys and 1 Flyers (Lindbergh). Bought everything from ebay or had a jersey store make some numbers up and do the sewing and pressing.

Ah, you're right, it's not on the HJD site, but they should be able to get it, since it's available on the K1 site (http://www.k1hockey.com/NEW/vintage1.htm), under "Rangers Vintage." Just contact HJD before you order.
Sewing is pretty easy, as long as you have access to a sewing machine. So easy, in fact, that an eight-year-old child can do it, in certain countries. :(

Nice looking gear! Have you done anything to waterproof them? They look a bit... pale.
Thanks. I beileve you wear a set as well, no?
On Scott's recommendation, I sprayed them with a high-end leather boot spray. I actually like that they havent darkened up (as with sno-seal). I think it's a nice, rich dark(ish) caramel color. So far between the spray and waterproofing in the factory (before the matertial got to Battram) they so no signs of water damage.
