I've only used these a handfull of times but they are working out great so far.
The glove is a 5002, and the blocker is a myst (I've always liked the thin board).

This spring was decision time for me. At age 47, do I retire or do I replace the gear one more time? I decided that after playing goal for 40 years, I had a few saves left in me. I ordered Fury pads, 5002 catcher and 5001 blocker.
I went with a "Hawk" theme as that used to be my nickname. I wanted the pads and gloves to show the grace and fluidity of the hawk while in flight. The predatory part of the hawk will come from my mask when it is painted in a few weeks.
The design was done by Chrys Cleary of Chrys Cleary Illustration at http://tigercats.net . Not only is she a great illustrator, she is also a competitive goalie in MA. So she can talk design AND goaltending. She was real good at capturing what I wanted. Once Chrys finished the design, Chakal got it production ready. I must thank him for doing a great job of translating the original design into something Scott could work with. Finally, Scott showed his wizardry and produced something absolutely perfect.

First set, 1999: I LOVED this gear! BOLD 3500

Cylones: The box pad revolution. Gave them to my friend who had his gear stolen at Christmas time.

Deceptors: The Pads I hoisted the Cup with! (Well a cheap silver bowl) :p Scott made them in record time so we could do our Xmas miracle!
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f299/Ryano42/TomRyanDeceptor.jpg
Verge: The Cadillac of pads! Cats prefer Verge over most pads!
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f299/Ryano42/TRVerge2.jpg
Egde: 11'' compliance, lean and mean minimalist pad. Didn't suit my style but I made a ton of great saves.

Furys: So far so GREAT. Like Super Deceptors! Only mod, special Logo! :D

Edges are wicked light, not at flexy as the Fury but I think nothing is! Very few straps and buckles. I think they would be perfect for a Ray Emery hybrid style.

I bought a Maltese Combo... and was REALLY unhappy with how crappy the quality was. I posted my displeasure with the product on the goaliestore and was subsequently hung at the stake for talking poorly of the beloved products from Mr. Maltese.
Scott was working on my C/A at the time, and I asked him if he'd mind taking a stab at redoing the neck guard for me... he agreed. I'm glad he did!
If you're lucky, he might make you one, but I think he's trying to stay away from the neck guard business.

Above you will see a full Camo unit, one I have been wanting to make for a while now... finally someone ordered it... the customer originally wanted orange camo, but it is not available in a 400 D nylon, so we went with the traditional woodlands pattern.
The bottom upper body, the customer is a fan of Jimmi Hendrix, so, he wanted to go with the winged Stratocaster graphic, however working on graphics this small, the headstock of the guitar ended up looking more like tele than a strat, getting that deep cut out in the headstock on something smaller than 1/4" x 3/8" was pretty tough but 95% of the people out there wouldn't know that! haha

Here is a set we did for a customer, I think who is a member here, at first they submitted a pretty bad skull graphic, then I had David work it up, we all agreed it was really bad... or at least bad for pads... Then David did a more traditional skull up and it evolved into what we have here... The gloves turned out amazing, I cant wait to get this face onto the pads later in the week.

I am assuming SNOW is the blue, grey and white... the material is available in some heavier nylons right now, but not yet in the 400 D material we use on upper body pads (at least not from Ennis). I am not sure what URBAN Camo is... but probably the same story as above.

We are going to have some fun with the pads... Custom graphics can be a nightmare for us to do, but when done right, I dont think you can beat having a personalized set of pads! As much as I hate doing the custom graphics, the end results are amazing! (Some folks dont realize that when doing custom graphics it can add between 2 - 6 hours onto the build time of a set of pads...because of the details in this graphic, little things like making the weave go the same way can be a real trick to do as you can see on the hand in the catch glove! On this set of pads I am guessing it is will add probably 4.5 hours...one of these days I should document in photos how a custom graphic is brought to life, I think it would be an interesting thing to showcase here on the Bulletin Board!) I think our graphics are getting to the level of Brians who for years were known as the masters of the custom graphics! So far I have not seen anyone doing graphics like Brians and us are doing which makes doing the custom graphics thing kinda cool too! I hope to have the pads done tomorrow night around this time.

That would be a great idea Scott!
Maybe you could have it start from the beginning of the build with a little more detail than the one from "How's it made" that is on youtube. If possible you could touch on the terminology of the pad components, kind of like a video encyclopedia.

Do you have any ideas? I played around with the Red Ribbon idea, but that is more of an HIV support theme.

Let me know what you think.

Not really sure on that one Graphics, you would need to talk to Chakal, he is the graphics guy!! I am sure he will have some good ideas if you give him the information he needs...
I dont know whos Fury pads you tried out, but never have I heard of anyone not being able to get those to rotate! But if you might need to do a custom leg channel...
chakal
07-04-2007, 07:32 PM
For someone who has rotation problems, I would suggest to remove the boot channel and have a flat boot so the pad just sit on the top of your skate. It will help since the pad will hit the ice a bit later and then, have no choice than the rotate.
Removing one knee lift on each pad would help too. Then making sure the boot strap(s) is(are) loose and also have a slack to the toe lace.

I am using RBK's they have an open leg channel. Do you have any pics of an open channel that you made. I play Juniors, I know how to make pads rotate. I spent 8 hours total in the pads when I did a camp last week. My biological dads friend has a set. Tried every strap and toe tie method, they did not turn at all for me.
Can you make the pads true pro spec. We do alot of play in Canada and I am afraid of getting hooked.

Scott, approx. how many hours did it take to make that pad? The design is incredible...
Scott Battram
07-05-2007, 08:01 PM
The amount of time into that graphic on the pads would have been between 4 - 5 hours at least. The total amount of time to built the pads, since they have slide plates and it takes about an hour longer for those, would be about 18 hours I would say. We started them Wednesday morning and finished them around noon today. Usually we build a set of pads in 12 hours. (Start at 9 in the morning and I am finishing them around 10:30 or 11pm the same day) but graphics like this require a lot of extra time) So sometimes they spread over 2 days. With this one, there was lots of little parts that are tedious to cut out and set up! Especially in the catcher hand!
Of course, when I get excellent work from Chakal sent to me, it makes it that much easier for me to do my job and get it on the pad! here is the pdf file we used... I think I got it fairly close to Davids templates!!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v335/sbattram/skulltemplate.jpg
All weave on this one would have been only tough to line up on the silver portions on the skull, but I would have made certain that it all lined up!! I am also lucky that the ladies here in the shop are as fussy as I am when it comes to things like the little details here on the pad.

wow those pads are amazing ! How flexible are these pads ?

The Fury model of pad is very flexible, the side darts that I have designed into the pad allow for the greatest range of flex ever in any Battram pad, this also alows for the pad to hold a nice S shape.
Some of the owners of this pad will be able to comment on the flex better as well!

Rob, the pads are extremely flexible. I owned the Verge as well as the Eagle Fusion and couldnt get the 5 hole closed. Now it is now problem and I dont have to strap the top tight at all.

Note: My pads are NOT Pro/NHL spec, they are 12" wide, and I think 34+1/2" (correct me if I'm wrong Scott, I can't remember exactly). My ITECH 960 Pro Profile helmet was designed/painted by myself, but next time I'd rather use better paints. After half a season this year the helmet is due for some pretty significant touch ups, and ultimately I am going to retire the mask and buy a new one to replace.. I have posted another message asking for help with deciding between Hackva and Sportmask... any advice would help.

Here is my only pair of Battram's.....I picked them along with the glove and blocker for a steal, and they were Philly colors, I thought I had it made.
Unfortunately, they were a little small....32", no thigh rise, and I am 6'1", with an ATK of 18". So I sold them off, but I did like them, just a little bigger would have been fantastic...

Glad they made it to you...
The camera doesnt do alot of the graphics we do justice, as seeing them in person is where you see the attention to detail that we offer, as well as the added depth, and although a wise man once said graphics dont stop pucks, you are going to look awesome out there with those babies...
Hopefully we will be doing up another interesting graphic in the next couple of weeks! I am awaiting on Chakals expertise with this IRISH theme! Who also deserves alot of the credit on making your set look good! If he can get it on paper, I can make it happen on the gear!

Some of those ideas have evolved into a new glove model for us (FURY) is quite the glove I must say! We also adjusted the lacing pattern so it does not come through the center of the T on the last one we did yesterday.
The holes in Punishers gloves are die cut with a white background.

Are they Fury pads?
Because the side rolls make them look more like Verge pads. I guess the the paw prints work better on the side rolls with fewer flex points.
Is there much difference between the Fury pads and the Verge pads? I can't really tell from the descriptions.
Also, they come with a sliding toe bridge, right?

Hey Scott, do you think I could please get a pic of my blocker soon? Then I'll stop bothering you :D
I was wondering, how long did it take you to make my combo? I was reading in some posts that custom graphics take a few extra hours, mine are pretty complex so I guess they took a lot longer, right?
Maybe I'll get something a bit less complex for my next set ;)
I've been showing everyone around here the picture of my pads, and some of my younger goalie friends have already started nagging there mothers to get them new pads like mine, hahaha.

Oh, sorry I didnt realize I had forgotten the blocker picture.. I just need to finish a set of pads then I will upload that as well...
Your pad graphics took about 6 hours to get them from the computer onto templates then onto the pads all sewn up!! People always ask how much I make when we do the custom graphics, I always tell them not enough! haha But I look at it as an artform that really only 2 company's in this industry do well!! Or at least I like to think that people would put Battram right up there with Briands in terms of offering great custom graphics! Of course, the graphic is only as good as the templates I work from and I got a pretty good guy doing those for us...
Just finishing up another cool set of graphics tonight... will post them here first! I will also show the artwork that was brought to me for these on paper, then what my graphics man was able to do with the ideas, then the finished product! As I know many customers ask if they need to have the graphics perfect when they order from us and have custom graphics ideas, this will show all we (or David) in this case needs is a rough sketch! Then we can make it reality!
Please!!! Not another one like yours! haha The catcher and blocker were easy, the pads were the time consumers!

I think Battrams custom graphics would be as good if not better then Brians. And the only reason I don't just say better is because I haven't seen a lot of Brians stuff with custom graphics.
But from my own experience, the stuff in the gallery on the site is AMAZING  I wasn't sure what brand to buy (between Vaughn, Rbk and Simmons) but as soon as I looked in the gallery there was no other choice :D
In comparison a while ago the Auckland Varsity Blues team got a set made by Brians with the Auckland University shield across the pads. It had a blue and white checker pattern in the background with little silver fernz. I wasn't really impressed. They were ok but they could have been better.
It was pretty funny actually because they brought 38" pads and expecetd any goalie playing for them to wear them. And one of there goalies was really short!

Thank you for the compliments. As for having no logos, you’ll have to ask Scott. I didn’t ask Scott to remove them, they just came that way. Though I was thinking of not having them, just forgot to ask. Guess he read my mind.

Yeah, Scott's logo's peeled off my C/A in a very short time too... It's too bad, his logo is great looking.
Maybe Scott should change the logo from being a heat transfer type to a stictch on patch?

If you look close...the Fury design sort of looks like Darth Vader. A Star Wars theme would be cool!!!

Haha My wife said the same thing about Darth Vader. Though she really wanted me to get a Shrek theme! Kind of an unoffical nickname, due to the "ears" on my helmet. The top straps are long and they stick up in the air, looking like ears or antennae.

I kinda agree...
...but all said and done, I buy kit to play in - it gets treated pretty roughly and a sticker will only last 'so-long' before perishing :)

Need custom graphics??? All we need is a rough idea! From this we send it to the graphic guru to touch things up just a bit!! And then we can bring the idea to life... here is the artwork the customer brought us...
