Guys, The background:

I am a old school goalie. And being as such i try to butterfly now and again.. but my roots that were beaten in to me was stay on your feet.
do the explosive kick/split saves and of course the double pad slid.

Well.. my double pad to my left is very explosive. i lauch myself to cover the man in front with full force. i land hard on my right hip and right shoulder in doing this. My shoulder is hitting the ice from about 2 feet off the ice I would guess with most of my weight crashing down on it.
Well, wednesday night.. my team was being shelled (its a rebuilding year)
another 50+ shot night and i did about 4 of the double pad slides which were very successful. But my right shoulder is bruised and hurts pretty good.

so, on to the mod, I took some 1 inch high density foam.. its all i had laying around the house. and a marker some scissors and fishing line type nylon thread. It only took a few stiches in 3 spots to secure the foam to the first layer of foam that is on the shoulder area.

The below pics should explain what i have done better.
Hopefully this very quick easy mod will solve my problem It still follows my shoulder because the foam is soft and should still legal i think..

The last pic is a before the mod pic.

Jim,

Being an old old-school goalie myself, I can relate to the explosive stacked pad save. When I read your note above, I couldn't quite understand the hard landing with all your weight on your shoulder.

However, last Saturday, that all changed. As I was doing a hard left stacked pad save, my defenseman collided with me. He spun me around just enough that the shoulder definitely hit the ice with full force. I couldn't lift my arm on Sunday. Yesterday was better.

I have a game tonight so it's gonna be Advil BEFORE the game and tons of mentholated goop rubbed on as well. If I have a hard time catching the puck to make saves, maybe the smell will keep the opposing players away...

Jester, I found out a shoulder injury is nothing to play with.
I hurt my shoulder on a Weds, then played again Friday, like you with alot of avil in me. NOT a good idea. I did one more double pad on it and now i have been out since. and missed 2 weeks worth of games. and it figures my phone has been ringing off the wall this week.. so i missed a total of about 7 games. my 4 regular and 3 extra.
I had to keep my arm in a sling for a week and a half and then got a prescrip for steriods. the only thing to take the swelling down.
so take very good care of the shoulder. Again dont play around with a shoulder injury. This one of the more painful injuries i have had in my life.
Close to the two the back surgeries i have had in pain level.

good luck with the healing and take a week off.
Cheers
Jim

Jim,

Did play on Tuesday. I had my best outing of the season. The shoulder did not worsen but decided to call off the Saturday two hour session to give the old bones a rest.

I finally skated last night, the mod worked out very well didnt even notice it was there. No real chance for a double pad slide .. also didnt really want to test it just yet. still a bit sore.

But this is a very easy mod and a little extra foam cant hurt. :D
