First off I'd like to thank Scott for having me be one of the first to sport his new product.

Battram will offer both faom, or gel materials for this piece. Most of us have already heard about the popularity of gel collar, and many speak wonders of it. Mine is a full gel collar, and is very comfortable, there isn't an issue of stiffness, restriction or mask interference with the gel, it really is form fitting. Although the reason that it is form fitting (contours the body), is probably due to its weight, keep in mind that the gel is heavier than any foam. You can really feel the difference when holding a gel collar, compared to a regular one (in my case my old Heaton). Once its on though you don't feel any weight issues, atleast I didn't, and I'm extremly difficult with the issue of the weight of a product.

For those of you who are concerened of the weight of the collar, just ask Scott to make you a foam one. But seriously, you can't feel a difference once your in action.

The neoprene is very soft and comfortable, and that along with the air knit dries very well.

As for Battram customizing, Scott added a piece of jenpro on the bib (which actually caught me by surprise, if I'd had known of this I may have opted for a different color or added graphic) This makes the collar unique and different compared to any other out there.

All in all this is a throat collar that is comfortable, offers high protection, with the best materials available, which can be tailored and modified to your individual needs and look.

I've only used it once, but I can honestly say that its already more comfortable the the one I've used for the last 10 years.

Thanks for the quickie review! It simply reinforces my unwavering faith in the quality of Battram products.

I anxiously await my collar in the next few weeks. I tried to get to the head of the line by pre-ordering; looks like I wasn't the first with that idea!

It's a shame that Battram doesn't have a better following in Montreal (lord knows I've tried to turn guys in my league onto scott's gear). I guess the intelligent goalies in this town are few and far between. ;-)

Just a question, I'm seriously considering losing my dangler. I understand a bib like the new Battram one wouldn't replace it, but does your ability to move and see improve with just the throat bib and no dangler?

I don't own a bib yet, but would like a little insight on what you all are using currently.
thanks

In my opinion I would not loose the dangler no matter what

Last year I switched from a dangler to a maltese bib, I would never go back. A gel collar is way more comfortable than you could imagine, you never notice it. IMO a protective throat combo more than replaces a dangler since it works against shots and skates. Without the dangler, there is no clattering, it doesn't get in the way, and you can see way better when you are looking over your shoulder, down in front; b/c you don't have to look through the dangler.

The gel makes no difference in weight to me but feels so nice
its very comfy protective and and fits well with my Vaughn C/A what else can you ask for

This was Battram's first gel collar he had made I think?
it wasn't made for me tried it on in his shop fit perfect and liked how it felt so I bought it.

If your in the market for a good neck guard wrap a Battram around yours.

Well, it finally happened. I got my Battram gel neck protector a few weeks after Scott announced availability of it, i.e. well over a year ago. The other night I got a vicious wrist shot that snuck up under my dangler and got me in the throat. The ref immediately whistled the play dead and rushed over to see if I was OK. In all honesty, barely felt the puck hit me. All I was aware of was the noise of the puck hitting the back of my dangler on the way out.

So, wear Scott's neck protector, it works as advertised. And a dangler.

(I can barely watch Carey Price anymore with his exposed neck, it gives me the shivers. Scott, mail him one as a Christmas present).

Price already had a Maltese combo sent to him and he doesn't like wearing neck guards.

In June 2010, I bought a throat guard from Scott. Prior to wearing his guard, I used a Maltese combo. My issue with the Maltese product is that I could not stop the velcro attachment from irritating the back of my neck. At any rate, as soon as I put on Scott's guard, it just seemed to disappear. It was incredibly comfortable. Since I have been wearing it, I have had no major hit on it, until yesterday!!!

Play was coming down on my right. My winger and defenseman bottled up the skater so he passed the puck pretty much clear across the ice to his linemate. I turned my head left a little and started adjusting my position and stance. Next thing I know I got hit hard in the neck by a flying stick. Apparently my two teammates and the initial opposing player got tangled up and one hockey stick was sent flying and rotating through the air at a pretty high rate of speed. I got hit by the shaft of the stick.

The throat guard took a direct hit. I definitely felt a jolt (more like a strain) but did not go down. It must have been quite a scene however because the play stopped immediately and some of the guys rushed to see if i was OK. One of them is an ENT doctor. He could not believe I was OK from such an impact. Today, I have no swelling or redness. It is minimally tender. Scotts' guard did the trick.....

That wouldn't have been good, good thing you have a good neck guard.
