hey guy's,
popping this thread here as its not yet a review, as per forum rules ;)
although i love my ps2' the time has come, well knees have gone tbh to warrent a set that is alot more flexible, and being in the uk you get what your given, usually for alot more than they are physically worth.
this is my old set:
rbk p2 glove, blocker and pads. All nhl spec. size wise they were told to be 38" (36+2) more than likely as they now sit about a 36+1 easily. the glove i had drama's with and had to rip it apart and rebuild it. Once that was done it was alot better, but tbh from the numerous gloves i have had, not one has been broken in the way i liked it, all apart from the vk5 which i still regard as the best glove on the market.
main reason for the switch is i wanted a pad that was more forgiving on the knee's with alot of flex also, i used to have a pair of vaugh v2's and rated them, just never the gloves, and i do like to match :D
so here's the new set,
semi pro return from washingtoncapitals farm team, from a player called matt turner app a good young goaltender.
there all pro spec,

have given the gloves a good clean now, and the bindings have come up alot better, tbh there full of puck marks so he muct of been pretty good hahaha.
the tee on the glove is broken, as was the rbk, so i may very well rebuild this glove too, but we'll see
I think the majority has been to go with the gold cage, so I’ll do that, it was actually my preference as I can see through it better, being plated as apposed to powder coated makes the bars thinner on the sight lines.
I had chance to mess with the pads so I will do a comparison to the rbks
PADS:
Weight, the Vaughn’s are slightly lighter, but feel more balanced and less bulky on the legs them selves which give the appearance of being lighter than they actually are. Flexibility wise, well when I read that people said rbk’s were stiff, I dint think they were, but when you compare those to the v3 they yeah, hitting the ice with rbk’s on feels like surf boards strapped to your legs. The one thing I have notice is they v3 feel more bulky around the knee, this is mainly due to the extra knee block, but this bulk is compensated for by being extra soft, firm but comfy.
The closed leg channel of the v3 allows me to strap the pad tighter than the rbk, this in turn stops the loose sloppy feeling whilst still getting the rotation required. My pads have a wider leg channel; this was requested along with the removal of the upper flap on the thigh rise, as well as the addition of the calf strap, a little piece of elastic over the two to keep all in place.
Summary of the pads, these are good for those who lack the flex of hip, to flare pads like maf, if you can get the flare, then the rbks are probably better.
THE GLOVES:
The breaks in both trappers feel very similar; I’d say 60 degree’s. Weight wise there is nothing in them, at the moment I prefer the rbk, simply because I rebuilt it to my feel, that now closes amazingly and the tee isn’t miss shaped. The v3 however has a small tee which is again broken internally so will need to be sorted, I have found the internal thumb strap puts stress on the thumb and actually hinders the closing of the glove.
The blocker is lighter than the rbk weight wise I would compare it to the beast or vk5 blocker. I like the more open top, which allows better interface of glove and c/a; this was a big thing I hated from the original v1 pancake glove.
So hopefully I will like this set, or my knees will. Well until I get into another slump- blame the pads and sell them ha-ha
