I am only semi-kidding! :p
In general, and thanks in large part to Battram (and Tom Kay back in the day!) I prefer small custom manufacturers for my gear when possible.
I have used pants from one manufacturer for years and now I am looking for alternatives. Their changes in design which required a lot of modding on my part and their inavailability in the off season has got me looking.
Considering how good the C/A is I am sure Fury pants would be GREAT!!! ;)
Integrated removable knee pads...slimmer NHL specs...Battram logos...
I'm just sayin'... :p

I would Definitely agree!
I'm sure though he has his reasons for not doing it. I want a new set of pants that are shorter and just smaller so they dont' interfere with my pads as much as my DR's do.
But pants aren't on the top of my replacement list. they're a close 2nd or 3rd

If Scott could product an NHL spec pant similar to the CCM 620 I am sure he would be too busy, but I would buy a set this instant if he could.

I'd love to see a Battram pant. As portly as I am, it's difficult for me to buy a pant off the shelf that's big enough to fit comfortably. Right now I'm waiting on a quote from John Brown for custom size pants but I'd order pants from Scott for sure.

Well I wouldn't say no to a CCM 620 flat thigh lookalike. I would tweak it a bit. Lower waist (not up to the ribs) and other minor stuff.

Pants is one area that I have been asked numerous times as to why I dont make them and honestly, I have never sat down to take a serious look at the construction of pants, but perhaps this is an area we need to explore. The problem is, finding the time to do it!

Forget the pants! I think Scott could retire just selling the illusive Luongo/Giguere knee/thigh pad/pant extensions. I personally would buy two sets. I think they would lower my GAA by at least .5 due to the squeakers that make it through my five hole.

this may sound blasphemous
Ever consider expanding operations and hiring help? Pads, C/A's, Gloves, Pants, knee pads, jocks. I'm sure custom built anything with Battram on it will do well.

One thing many people do not know is there are also other people at work here at Battram, not just myself building gear but I have 3 others working as well, and also my wife handles most of the business side of the company outside of her regular daytime job.
I am pretty content with the way things are done right now, I cant see expanding and having to deal with those headaches! I still remember when I met with Mr. Heaton, his words were to the fact that if he was getting back into the business he would do it the same way I am. I think its much more fun and rewarding dealing on a one to one basis with the customers and not having all the problems associated with larger companies.

I can understand that. Too big means too impersonal.
I got back into mountain bikes and I took the Custom route for me, like Battram. I sold 3 old racing bikes to afford it, but it was worth every penny.
Carl Strong ghost built for several companies and built and had a large staff until the stress got to him. He broke it down to his wife and him, Carl doing all designing, prep and welding for each frame, built one at a time, start to finish.
It was like working with Scott, or Matt at Promasque; a colaborative discussion about every aspect in detail, like Scott he called on the day of production.
I hope the results were as what I expected from Scott and Carl delivered.

They can come out with superduper materials and sign every NHL star, but NOTHING beats personal and CUSTOM.
I can get pants from Brown if I need to...if Battram lost the good part of small, it wouldn't be worth it! :D

How about Jerseys? that would be cool. Shirts would be cool too. You could just get some RBK practice jerseys or something and have some one silk screen logos on them or even better embroider the logo.

I am of two minds on Battram pants. On one hand, I feel that expanding the product offerings would possibly stretch Scott too thin and affect the core products that have built his reputation. On the other hand, I would so love to step onto the ice and be wearing nothing but Battram.
I have a pair of Brian's Ridge pants that have served me well for over 10 years now, and I have been considering CCMs or Brown for my next pait, but I feel that any name other than Battram is a sign of accepting second best when it comes to my protection.
I've completed my 11th season with a pair of 3500s and they still have some life left in them, even if they are looking their age. It shouldn't be long before I call Scott and arrange for a complete overhaul of my gear.

Since Scott is the wizard of custom graphics, it simply would not be adequate for him to offer a PLAIN goalie jersey. I think he should have a contest for the best Battram jersey/logo design with the winner receiving a free blocker or catcher. Now that would get some people seriously fired up!!!!!! I would personally not hesitate buying a Battram jersey with a cool logo on it.
Go! Scott, Go!

We have at one time offered goalie jerseys with our logo on them. We basically could do the logos in house, just need the shirts to apply the logos to.
Honestly, they never really sold that well and we ended up including many into customers who purchased full combos boxes when we shipped their gear!
Of course that was several years ago and perhaps they would go over better today!

Offer full pro jerseys (size 60 with fight strap and doubled elbows and shoulders) with Battram logo on it. Put a price on them and offer a discount on them depending on if it's gloves only, pads only or full set. Also, make sure there's www.battram.com (http://www.battram.com) written on it.

Chakal has a good point on having the web address on the jersey. I think it would need more than the Battram logo to make it work. Gotta think out of the box. Here's a crazy idea. Have a lizard sitting on a pile of pucks and having its tongue sticking out grabbing a puck out of mid-air. OK, that is weird but the point is to make it interesting, different, whatever... The jerseys should re-inforce that the Battram experience is different. The graphics would have to go POW!!!
Sorry! Got carried away during lunch break...LOL

Or do something really subtle and simple, like offering a jersey colour-matched to the set of pads & gloves, with custom name & number, and nothing more for branding than a Battram logo on the right front shoulder, or perhaps as shoulder-patches, and 'BATTRAM' on the bottom rear hem. Leave the crest-space blank for one to be added later, so team logos could be stitched on as needed.

Anybody remember those padded practice jerseys Heaton made in the 1990s? Seems as if there could be demand for something like that nowadays since players still like to shoot high and hard during practice.
At any rate, I'd definitely snag a Battram jersey to go with my new stuff.

Had one. I didn't find it was worth it. The extra padding offered little extra protection and when I washed the jersey, the padded sections started to fray and eventually came apart. I wasn't impressed.
Besides, with a Battram upper body pad, who needs extra padding? :D

The problem is that the RBK practice jerseys are only available in players' sizes and stupid freaking too big goalie tents... jerseys. So in my mind it's a wrong idea.
In this model, the pro sizes are only available to.... pros. So no luck here. I would like to see other jerseys than god damn tents! That's why I only wear pro jerseys. Size 58 and 60.

I have a GSBB sublimated jersey and I quite like it. The styling is attractive and the colours do not bleed. The goalie sizing is also reasonable compared to the RBK Tent. The length is perfect and the sleeve will fit any goalie arm pad and they taper somewhat at the end and the openning is not 4 feet wide!
Going with an NHL team jersey as a base is a bad idea due to individual preferences unless you offered them the choice of any team they want!

I have an uncrested SP jersey in my "collection". It is quite sturdy and the cut is really nice, big where it needs to be. I think the Battram logo is growing on me. I don't know there ever will be an agreement on color!!!!!!
Maybe part of the deal would be that Scott could apply the logo and web site for free (or reduced rate) for people who send him a jersey and have bought from him before?!?!?!?!?! That would get us out of the color, design issues.
Scott must be sitting there laughing that we are talking as if we are making the decision.

What I mean is not a NHL team jersey, I talk about a solid colour (or stock SP design like I've shown) but full pro jersey. Full pro I means, heavy material used for pro jerseys, doubled shoulders and elbows and fight strap.
With solid colours, Scott would be able to order different colours with no or low minimal orders since SP have them in stock anyway.
I only play with Full-Pro jerseys now, they last longer and don't get ripped by shots.

Getting back to the original reason for this thread:
I had a brainstorm on how to make Battram pants with minimal hassle for Scott.
Embroidered Battram logos on a square of nylon that matches the color of the pant. Getting a couple of square nylon patches with the Battram logo would be fairly easy to have sewn (or glued?) onto the pants, over the "lesser" brand. :D
It wouldn't be free, but it would be an affordable way to say that you have Battram pants. Just thinking of my Brian's Ridge pants, I would need 3 squares, one for the left leg front, and one for each hip. I don't think any of them are more than 3 inches square, and most equipment comes in stock colors, so black, navy, royal, red, would be the easiest to match up, and I'm sure Scott has the same (or better) nylon available.
Thoughts?

No argument, Sprawl, I'm just thinking of a way to have a Battram branded pant if none is likely to appear in the future.

I think if Scott went about doing pants the way Jean Roy makes his Sharp pants in Montreal, it might work. Small-scale, high quality, with the added benefit of being made precisely to work with Battram C/As and pads, much the way the C/A is made to work with the gloves.

I would buy Battram pants if Scott would make them as I'm sure others wouls as well. Scott, have you ever posted anywhere as to why you wouldn't make pants? Either you or your wife explained why you hadn't been making gear bags when I placed my last order. I'm just curious.

That's an angle I hadn't considered. That's prolly why you get the big "lawyer bucks"! ;)
With my previous Heaton C/A, I had a strap with a buckle going from a loop in the lower chest to a gerry-rigged buckle I attached to my then-aging jock whose waist strap had been strecthed too far and was unable to keep the jock from drooping. It kept both pieces pretty well aligned and prevented any gaps where I could get injured. At the time, I imagined a custom one-piece jock/body pad part that slid right into the pants.
Then I got new pants and a better jock, so the idea kind of died then. I think that getting any C/A to integrate properly with pants is a big challenge. I still use suspenders for my pants to keep my C/A inside the pants because I don't like using the flimsy integrated belt on the Brian's Ridge pants.
Perhaps Scott could have a limited production run of pants that are designed to work seamlessly with his C/A.
As for equipment bags, I remember seeing a Franklin branded bag a long time ago and I asked Scott if he could reproduce it. He felt that it would be possible as a one-off, but (IIRC) the cost of making bags was not really profitable enough to get into. Considering that any bags now have wheels and aluminium frames, Scott would have to invest in extra parts that are outside his area of expertise. I have seen some cool players bags that wear like a backpack. That could be a cool design for a goalie bag and eliminate the need for wheels and special frames.

Basically, the reason we have never got into producing hockey bags is simply because the time that it would take to make one bag would not be a wise economical decision for us to produce. I think if you look at the tags where the majority of the equipment bags are produced, it unfortunately wont say anywhere in North America!
There still are some bags produced here, but many of those will be custom bags done for people willing to pay the price for quality. When it comes to bags etc, many people are of the throw away mentality, when it breaks in a year or so, get a new one for 60 bucks.
We get emails all the time from offshore companies wishing to supply us with everthing from bicycle gloves to hockey bags with "your name here" type deals... but if I cannot control the quality, I couldnt in good faith sell it to someone.
Also if you have an understanding of gear design and construction some of those bags with all the pockets, zippers, pouches etc... really have a lot of work into them and I cat believe how low they sell them for!
For the record... wheeled bags... just not for me! haha
I played in an era when we hauled a full bag of goalie gear into the rink over our shoulders! usually carrying the pads and sticks in our free hand!

I'll never go back to a wheel less bag... what a back ache for nothing.
I wish someone would make a samsonite style goalie bag (i.e. a hard plastic shell, solid wheels and handles etc.). I'd drop $200 on one easily if I knew it would last more then a season or two.

I understand what you are saying but I believe my wheeled bag has probably extended my career by at least ten years! You know I am not a big guy and I play anywhere from 5 to 8 times a week. My back is not what it used to be and I truly believe that if I had to carry my gear over my shoulder each time I would quickly become discouraged from playing so much. The rink I play at most often requires me to scale a lot of stairs and includes a healthy jaunt to and from the parking lot as even the closer spots are not that close due to the vast parking lot set up for mobility challenged individuals, near the doors to the arena. There is an elevator and I know one older guy who drops his gear off by the door before he parks and uses the elevator but I choose not to go to that extra trouble. Using the elevator still requires going up a short flight of stairs as well.
