Stacey Combo AKA STACE custom.

So here it is my Stacey combo, After Nick, (Moving Target) got his one, I went overboard and ordered one too, this is the mark 2 model.
Changes that i made together with Stacey are,
X strapping system rather then the Y on nicks model.
Round holes.
Face opening cut to match the cage.
strapless backplate
and the lip, i wear a chin cup and not a sling, this lip allows you choice either.
this was a hell of a part for Stace to work on, but knowing Stace it came out looking great, again this isn't just a piece of plastic or a glassfiber add on, this is the same as the mask shell, high grade material, he built a mold just for this piece.
got a few mails saying he was working on it to get the inside of this as smooth as the outside.

The shell is almost pure aramid to get it stiff enough and boy is it stiff.

Cage has been fastened with 6 screws to the shell and 4 to the lip (two are used to overlap both) none of these are in the high impact zone where you sometimes see other makers put screws.

Cage is a Stainless model powdercoated white.
I was surprised that the cage is build up out of different Ø of rods, the high impact ones are thicker then the other ones, which on their turn are as thick as my spacetech's cage.
So i got confidence in this cage.

with a big stainless cage like that, i was fearing a heavier weight but it comes in on a nice
1.4 kg slightly heavier then other masks, but the balance is insane, putting this on is like wearing a cap.
Sidelines are immense, downview is bigger then in anything i ever wore excluding my old combo with a cateye, these are quite the same actually in downview and sidelines.

My input to the location of the buckles are a small success in my eyes, the buckles are mounted in between the cage rods, so it is recessed and when hit it can't pop away, there is about 1cm of stretch when i undo them on each side, enough to pull it over my head and just enough to make them snug.

Overall I'm trilled with this new addition to my gear whorism.

i will let you guys know how it goes on ice.

Also i'm currently building a dangler out of Lexan the same grade used in bulletproof glass. it's gonna be finished today and i will post pics of that later on.

Pun.

I hate it :)

Is the chin-guard connected to the mask - or back to the cage?

Got to agree with all your choices mate....

The Mark One has great lines-of-sight balance, so this baby must be immense!!!

(It really feels like you're playing in a skaters helmet rather than a goalie mask)

The high aramid is a good choice... i've had some real blasters to the forehead of late.

Things i'd copy now:

1. the screws into the forehead
2. the backplate ONLY for the clear skull-cap (for painting). I really like the Y-harness ive got
3. the option of the chin-guard. Im a fan of the sling, so the inter-change option between cup and sling is a good idea

things i wouldn't copy:

I announce today my intention to design and deliver the Stacey Stage Mark 3

It's got head cooling technology based on termite mound design...

I personally am not a huge fan of these masks, (the style, not the brand no problem with the brand), but the mask looks great, I hope it works for you pun !

I LOVE it. Clearly, a lot of thought went into both designs. Which ensures you both are safe to continue having a lot of thoughts.

Is Pun's longer or is it just MT's massive jelly filled cranium that makes it look that way?

They were both custom made to different people's specification so we must assume they are different.

They're built for our heads, but the two front photos are slightly different angles.

I think that they're basically the same width and length

sorry i didn't take pics of the process.
I used 4mm lexan, cut it with a cnc (flat) then put it in an oven heated it, then put it on a simple round mold, in my case a stainless steel polished tube of an outdoor lighting fixture.
Had it cool down, drilled the holes and chamfered the edges.
the lexan already had some marks and scratches as it was a piece of wast from a project we did like 3 years ago.
I polished a bit and that was all actually.
Pic of the mask with dangler, i'll cut the nylon cords to length when i got my gear on.

About the shape i did the dip so i don't fog up the dangler when it is hanging there. and it doesn' hang in front of me blocking my down view,
never quite grasped the idea of the why danglers went up in the middle only to block your view and having you breathing on it.
I think it is close to the size of a lacrosse dangler.

mask with dangler.

cheers,
pun.

what O.D. pipe did you use? i have an idea now for my own home made dangler :D

just curious to what pipe i should use to cool it,
and how long and how hot did you heat it for?

Pun that looks great. I like the look of it a lot, especially with the white cage on white mask
