After deciding to not go through the hassle of finding a new cage for my VV3 I went to Gunzo's here in Chicago to pick out a new mask.

With a somewhat limited budget of $250 and an afternoon off I tried on about 15 different masks they had there. All new.

Vision, and brand name were important to me. I heard alot of good things about Eddy, and fell in love with the design, and "open-ness" of the mask. It felt similar in terms of sight as my VV3. Granted it was a bit of a step down in terms of materials...

After the first game I played with the mask 2 of the foam pieces nearest my cheeks fell off during play.

Now this week the chin strap/cup completely tears off, and most of the screws all come undone.

Never buying another mask from Eddy again. For $250, I expected to at least get one or two seasons out of it....

dude, no offense, but you got what you paid for in this case, its not eddy, its any mask at the price point

two things to NEVER cheap out on, mask and c/a, re-evaluate the situation..

and next time. spend a little more, this is your head.. for an extra 100, you could have got a hackva, which would last more then a season or two..

brand name means nothing for masks, reputation does, should have asked around here, coveted, hackva, pro-choice, none are brand name, but ALL are better then the brand name. because of price, AND protection.

i dont want to come off as an ass, but i cant feel bad for someone, who paid 250 for a mask, and is made, it didnt last....

the itech 1200 is called a widow maker, and its 250.....

Understood.

However, nothing was done to the mask, or did I get a shot to it. The mask fell apart from wearing it.

But it's not SCREWED, the things that aren't working are htings that usually need adjustment off the shelf anyways, foam can go back in, screws can be tightened... for $250 really, think about it. When you consider it had paint on it and a cage and hardware, that's almost $200 right there, throw in the time it takes to pad the mask and that a worker is paid to do that and put hardware on...

Dre is right but I can understand your frustration, some of us keep boasting about the quality of hockey equipment made by hockey people - then this happens...

Well, it could be just a fluke, bad luck - personally I know things sometimes go wrong, that's when customer service comes into play. Talk to the folks where you bought the mask and see what they'll do, you could also contact the manufacturer directly and tell them your experience. If they care, they'll thank you for letting them know the problem so it can be addressed in the future.

Are you familiar with Flavio's recent post about his Sportmask? That's raising the bar in customer service.

If all else fails you can fix it yourself. If you need help there's plenty available from the expert members here, just ask.

Peace to all...

Understood.

The chin strap for the chin cup ripped off. Torn through. That is a fix I don't think I can really trust to do myself.

Yeah, I keep getting the run around from the shop. Which sucks as I've been buying gear there since I was a tike, and my dad did as well before me.

I finally got ahold of Eddy's customer service, and was told they'd call back. Still waiting for the call. So we'll see.

The chin strap is nylon, right? If you can't get one easily around your area let me know, I'll cut one to the exact size of the old one if you give me measurements and mail it to you, no biggie!

It's made from some weird velcro material... very strange. may replace it with a chin cup from another mask tho.

How old is the mask? Did it have a production date on it? I have a feeling the glue may have gone stale. I see a lot of masks sitting at the hockey shop that have been there for YEARS.

Huh, well I've got black nylon and black or white elastic, so if you're having trouble with it let me know, NASH sports also sells the chinstrap pieces and nice chincups too.

No problem, I know how bad it sucks when you get something new that you hope is perfect and it doesn't end up being that way. Getting the runaround from the mfg/retailer sucks too, been there done that.
