So here we are: the man, the legend, the chopped up gear. :D

Lets start with a background.
I'm from Belgium, home of waffles and beer, not hockey and gear.
I started in goal when i was 5 and a half. (born in '78)
With gear so crappy i would look like an ocean map one that Cousteau would be jealous off.
I learned my position as a standup goalie which was pretty basic, but soon got a bit of a name to be elastic and very fast moving. I got a call from the Dutch national team when I was 14 and stayed there until I was 21. From my sweet 18 I played a few years semi pro and I got some better gear now I looked like a map of Canada’s lakes instead of an ocean map. So even in that time I did what I thought was logic, mainly cutting up equipment to make it better for my style.
So I basically was raised with the frankengear fever.
To this day it still is, if I’m not happy with something I mod it and that’s that.
That mainly is the reason I play with cheap china made gear.
Cost-price and the fact that I will cut it up prevent me from buying top gear.
Unless I can mod it before I get it.
So to the gearcave robin.

We start out with what isn’t important or modded.
Skates : CCM vector 4, cheapest on the market, no whistles and bells, just a plain skate, does what it suppose to do.

Jock: RBK pro thingy bought it and liked it, does what it must do most of the time, might go and wear a player one under it in time but for now my boys aren’t beaten and bruised to badly.

Mask: Stacey space tech mach 10, best damn piece of brain-protection I ever had, custom made by that crazy dutch-british geezer.

Sticks: whatever the market has to offer.

A slightly modded maltese combo. Needs replacement.

The CA: RBK 5K with following mods.
Trew out the elbowcups and replaced them with jofa player cups.
Cut all straps off and placed a single belly strap on it
Cut the straps to the shoulders on the back and attached the backpiece to the front (not to the shoulderwings) this makes it sit up higher and better at the collarbone area.
Also sewed in some straps that go from the backpiece under the arms onto the front.
Made a belly flap from my old CA and attached it to the RBK (not yet on picture)
Cut of the schoulderfloaters and replaced them with smaller D&R models.
Giving more mobility in the shoulders and arms.
Future mod might be that I thin out the elbowfloaters.

The pants: cheap-ass itech 4.8 something.
Cut of all suspender thingies.
Sew a pair of thightguards together with the old elbowcups of the RBK 5K (which are slightly modded) and made them into a kneesetup, which I then laced into the pants.

The Pads: very basic boxshaped pads, they do have a bit of a legchannel and the boot has some depth all leather straps, single block knee-riser thightboards and a +1 on the rise. Pads are 34+1
Miklin 370 prototypes.

The blocker: simple blocker from miklin the old 270 version, not much to say, not the world worst not the best, I prefer an older model of blocker, with better thump protection than this one but alas it doesn’t, have to perform my first reparation on the index finger strap, it ripped so my protection is dangling.
We’ll see as soon as we got the money to buy an other one.

Trapper: now there I will have your attention, it’s the battramstein 5002/verge lovechild.

As the pictures show, it has the pocket and the inside of a verge and the rest is 5002 without the cheaterbar.

And some extra’s
specs would be, pre lockout size, all black non weave, white lacing, no logo on the cuff(waffleboard look), big web but not extreme.(+1” on the pocket)
extra tongue on the cuff for wrist protection( this would stick a bit out under the cuff and would protect the wrist when you reach out deep for a puck, done with Velcro so i can position it myself), heavy duty nylon on the inside of the cuff (topside) where the Velcro of my CA rubs on. separate fingerstals, no metal eyelets. nash in the palm and a 2 tighten strap system (i really liked the Vaughn5500 setup) and a wide backside on the wrist for a good mobility. (+1” on the cuffs Velcro)
and a special ribbon logo on the backhand cuff, And a stickhandling patch.

So that’s what I wear, now you know :D

Interesting mishmash of gear parts!

What does the blue ribbon logo represent?

The blue ribbon represents bowel or intestine cancer.
My grandfather(a soccer goalie) died of it and my mother was diagnosed with it a year ago,
she fought it and had it removed, now a year later she had her last chemo and is doing pretty well, she'll be going to the hospital pretty regular for checkups but we have good hopes.
She's a fighter, i got that from her, and this is my way to pay respect to it.

Very cool!

I realized it was a tribute of some sort, I just wasn't familiar with the blue ribbon.
