Going through the galleries on the main page I noticed that some catchers have a weird pocket web, it looks like the T has been removed and the pocket has been partitioned into 3 triangles. IS there a benefit to doing this or is all cosmetic?

I had one of those...the only difference I saw was it cushioned more and sometimes I wouldn't know I made the save!

I never could tell a difference when I used the X-web (I had one in my Vaughn Velocity) It seemed to catch pucks all the same.

I've tried just about everything at one time or another: shallow T, deep T, thin T, wide T, split T, Y-web, X-web...

My only impression is that I have a *much* greater feel for a caught puck with a wide T (like my current Bionic) than I do for thin, split or other T's. I think a wide, shallow T would give the greatest feeling for the puck (think of a Lundqvist R8, or a really old Vaughn Legacy). As you begin to thin out the T, feeling for the puck decreases; if you split the T into two or three or four thin strips, you feel the puck even less.

I also have a suspicion that gloves with thin or divided T's are much harder to break in consistently, and more likely to break down over time - but that's pure speculation. I don't know how integral the T is to the actual structural integrity of the glove and its closure.

Completely agree with Law. The wide T on my Vortek has had the best feel of any catcher I've used. I hated the X-web when I had it on my Velo 1.

I prefer and recommend the T on the 5001 and 5002 models, or what the other guys here are calling the WIDE T
