Nexus Customizer Thread

Seeing as Scott doesn't have a customizer up yet for the Nexus line, I thought I'd start a thread where we could help each other out with photoshop and such to get the color combos we are interested in looking at down on screen.

I've created a decent photoshop document that I can adjust pretty quickly to the different color combos, so if you want me to whip some together for you let me know and I'll post them in here for you.

Here is a version that you can mess around with in Paint if that's all you've got:

The version I have in photoshop enables me to overlay a weave pattern on the various areas of the pad to get a feel for what the weave is going to look like. I think the effect needs to be a bit more pronounced, I'll work on that over the week-end.

Just a note from me. When I did the Nexus graphic, I had some things in mind. For the gear to fit completely, I always thought the thumb and the inside of the sidewall should be the same colour as the inside "swoosh".

Also, on the back hand (catcher), the part with battram fits with the smallest swooshes, the part above fits with the middle swoosh and the part above fits with the bigger swoosh.

The tab on the outside of the pads fits with the boomerang. See, 2 examples here:

But of course, that's just me. But that's how I thought while making the design.

I'll be working on it pretty soon.

I had to many things going on lately with Chakal Hockey. I was developing my new mask line, did some touch ups for The Hockey Shop, another customizer for Switzeland. On top of that, add my day time job and the girlfriend, gym, wrestling and hockey. I try to find time to sleep too. LOL

Ok, I think I've got my photoshop template sorted out now... I've coordinated the sections of the gloves with Chakal's layout. The file is setup so that I can just select a color for each of the key components of the layout, turn on/off the weave for each section and BAM output a jpg that I can post. Just specify the following colors:

Base Color: Weave: y/n
Inside Swoosh: Weave: y/n
Side Swoosh: Weave: y/n
Boomerang: Weave: y/n

No one has pinged me to do any color combos for them, so it looks like I'm just doing this for myself. :)

I would love to see a set with Dark Blue as a base color, then some yellow, as in lightning bolts, with the only other colors being either white or black.

Or you could get creative with the color scheme, just as long as the base is dark blue, with yellow accents.

3rd one from the top is really nice...

I would use White or Gold Bindings on the gloves though with a contrasting lace colour

I agree about the black, just doesn't work at all. It is funny, but I was thinking 5th one down, but I also like the 3rd one down, but there is an interest in the 4th one also. Great job of bringing all the looks to the one post, it really helps! Thank you very much Gregan!

On number 4, I would want the lace around the T in the trapper white, and on the edge gold. I was also looking at the pads, thinking the stitch marks should be gold or white....just a thought.

I'm looking to potentially add gloves to my pad order and do the whole set in La Kings colors.

Potential ideas for color patterns would be -

Dominant color: Black - Secondary colors: Purple, Silver weave

Dominant color: Silver - Secondary colors: Purple, Black weave

Dominant color: White - Secondary colors: Purple, Silver weave, Black weave.


Dominant color: Purple - Secondary colors: Silver weave, Black weave


I'm not patient enough to do it in paint - no autofill! Let me know if you come up with anything cool. MG is also working on this for me.

I just ordered some gear in Black/White/Bronze weave and he never mentioned anything about not having bronze.

The normal green has been discontinued, there is a Forrest green though

There also is gold weave and bronze weave.

The bronze jenpro has been eliminated from the manufacturer.

I still can get purple as well.

I need to get a definative list from the supplier as to what is gone.

Replace all the Navy with Purple and there you go. What I want to do is make them look similar to Garon's Kings PS2 set from last season. Not sure if Scott has the purple lace for the pocket though!

I'm a tad bummed that the customizer doesn't have any bronze. I am trying to create a set with Oilers colors, which would be the only thing I might consider other than a retro brown set.

Bronze is still available, hopefully Chakal will get it corrected with the correct colours, he told me has been under the weather the last day or two so hopefully he gets feeling better and makes those changes.

Yes, I don't like the boomerang either. I don't know if its because it just looks like its sitting in the middle of nowhere, or if it's because it is angled and the rest of the graphic is round.

Good to see I'm not the only one, I find the boomerang odd too (sorry Chakal!), my issues with it are that it's sitting in the middle of now where, it's not pointing to the middle of the arch of the larger graphical elements and it's not as curved as the other pieces. Also visually on a finished pad, I think it's just a piece of Jenpro stiched ontop of the base layer which looks rather odd to me on this type of design. That is one thing that I like about the RBK graphic design, each graphic elements flows out from underneath another graphic element, gives the finished pad a cool flowing textured look.

Overall, I still really like the Nexus graphic, I just have some issues with it (as I do with most graphics on goalie pads save a few really special designs that I've seen).

I like the boomerang since it's breaking the flow, it gives a less boring flow. Without the boomerang, I feel it looks plain and too common.

I think it creates movement and contrast. You don't only have a colour contrast, but a shape contrast too. I know damn well it's a taste thing and I will not get mad or even been annoyed but people who don't like it, but the boomerang is there for something.

I agree with you completely Chakal, I've taken a look at the design without the boomerang and it does look plain. The graphic needs the boomerange to give it some punch.

I wasn't trying to convince you, but I'm a big fan of the double contrast thing, just like when you got 2 colours but one is weave and the other is jenpro. 2 type of contrast that accentuate the punch in the colour scheme.

That's why it hurts me a bit when I see an all-weave set. Waste of colour "punch". All jenpro isn't as bad, because sometimes, less is more, but too much is always "bad".

I think there is a better third option. Make the T part of the pocket all blue instead of blue and white. Attach that to option 2. Then use the blue lacing like on option 1.
