Turbine - The Season of Eternal Pain - Game 3
Going in 0 and 2, I wasn't expecting much of a different outcome. We lost 4-2. The team is bad.... bad bad bad. Most of the players that got us to Upper 4 aren't playing this session, and the few with decent skills only come every other game or so. We basically have a D5 team, competing with guys who can play D3. Most of the goals I'm giving up are multiple redirects off my own guys in front of me, or tips from the other team as no one is clearing them from in front of me. They can stand there all night and no one picks them up. I enjoy a challenge, but.... it's getting a little ridiculous.
I usually don't get too upset when things go bad, but sometimes **** just rubs you the wrong way. One of the opposing team's guys is a real dickwad, and said something in between plays about "hey, this is a lot faster than Indian hill, eh? ".... ummm.. no. I'm usually waiting for your shots anyway, dumbass. I can't wait to skate out against this clown sometime. He's going for a ride.
Sheesh.
I'd LOVE for this clown to show up on a Thursday at IHC and just get walked around.
The way the season is going, we will probably go back to Lower 4 half way throuh the session, switching with a team that should move up. At least that's the plan from the league director.
I'm looking forward to the Indian Hill upper level league. That should be a lot more fun.

Now 1-3.
Probably going Lower 4.
New league at Indian hill starts in two weeks.
Filling in for another guy at Northlands the next five weeks.
Filling in for another guy during the week night games in D3.
Playing in the Winter Carnival at Indian Hill in two weeks.
Skating out helping a D5 team Fri/Sat nights on defense.
Regular league plays this Saturday then off for three weeks.
It's going to be a fun couple of months!

Well, the new Indian Hill league starts Monday night. I'll have back to back games with the league game at 7pm, then the open hockey session for the members only group at 8:30. I just realized... "Members Only"... haha! They should all get those damn jackets from the 80's!
In other news, LOW WALKOUTS.
God.... I am having the worst time with this lately. I think I know what I'm doing wrong, but I'm not sure. Part of it is I think I assume my D will prevent it, or at least force them out, and I relax a little. Then next thing I know, they're right in the slot going across from behind the net, or just inside the goal line and heading across the slot:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v111/timmyh911/walkoutpath.jpg
I've had success with a poke check on this situation in most of the lower leagues, and I think I'm depending on it too much. The higher skillzorz players read it too quick and back it out enough that they are out of reach, and go right through the D guys.
What bothers me most is that I am dropping too much on these bad angle shots, leaving the top wide open. Granted these type of players can realy pick the corners, but they shouldn't have anything to shoot at if I am doing it right. Aargh! I even had one shot go right through the palm and pocket of my glove, just due to the angle I was caught holding it while trying to decide whether to gain some depth or cheat for the pass. :o Now THAT was a bad goal. Shhheeeesh.
Oh well. I'll work on it this week. I have a game tonite at Northlands, filling in for a guy who's out with shoulder surgery. It doesn't start until 11:30pm. Ugh.

Getting better at the walk outs and goal line plays. I'm finding if I actually initiate some kind of fake, they usually bite on it, and I can make them go where I want to go when their options are limited like that.
In other news, the team at Indian Hill won their first ( likely ONLY ) game this session on Saturday. Here's a shot of the winning team!

Long time no blog.
Let's see... where to begin... ok.
The Indian Hill league has gone as expected, we have only won three games. Two against the firemen and one against the chicks. It's been brutal. I am usually out shot by at least 5-1 and then some. The guys have gotten a little better, so it's nice to see them improving. I've filled in playing FOR the chicks a few games too, against the roller hockey team from hell... twice. Both games I've played standing on my head, with the only goals being no hope 3-0's or 2-0's.
The Turbine team ( regular league ) has been playing like them old selves again... since the old players came back. Nice to see some actual offense and defense for a change. We've won the last three since they've been back.
Been subbing for the D3 Armadilla's and Shrews. Beat the old school goalie last night.... first time in four attempts. He was on, I think he just hadn't played in awhile. Friggin guy wear's old Cooper's all around... I am usually cheering him on from my end of the ice. He's probably my age or a couple years older. It's fun just watching him.
The Indian Hill club has decided to try and keep their ice until May now, so they are starting up a second session with 3 divisions. I am scheduled to play for one of the higher level teams.... no clue if it's a go yet. They have to get at least 6 teams in each division to make it work. Should be fun. They team I am supposed to play for is captained by one of my old teammates from Biohazard.
The new pads are working better each time. I'm starting to find that they are actually about an inch and a half too short in the knee, which explains why the landing gear tends to roll on me, making the pad end up on it's face instead of the knee wing. When I push my knee down, it slips forward just enough that it can push more on the knee channel instead of the wing. Oh well. I can probably add a riser to the boot for now. I'm loving the reduced weight versus my UL 2's.... a pound and a half lighter.... each.
Filling in tonite skating out for a D4 team that needs some subs... should be a nice break. Been playing net for about 9 games in the last two weeks.

Knocked my old team out of the playoffs last week, and am 3-1 this week.
My worst problem is rebounds and losing the puck in my body. Part of it is my fault, but part of it is also my equipment. As much as I love my Mage 2, I hate having the dangler on there. I lose rebounds to the ice too often, and can't find them through the dangler. Argh!
I'm getting a new mask over the summer. Probably taking the summer off from playing regular leagues... might fill in when needed, but no other commitments. Time to golf more, dammit!
I'm looking at the T3 maybe with a little longer chin on it. Does anyone have a T3 that they've added length to the chin? Is it necessary? Just curious since it's an option they offer on the sportmask home page.

sk2000 guy is one of the better players... could probably handle upper D4 or lower d3 here. Beard guy is super cool... but very very poor on skates. He is brand spanking new to hockey AND skating.
Everyone in that picture besides moi is a member of the Winter Club.
Whenever we play I feel like the caddies in Caddyshack swimming past their allotted 15 minutes. :p

Well, Turbine is still in the playoffs. We lost in the first round of the semis tonite, so game 2 is Wednesday. Our best guy is supposed to sit that game ( got three for being third man in ) but he might try to play anyway. The other team has one guy that either set up or scored all of their goals. We were down 3-1 at the end of the first, and we came back to tie it with about 3 minutes to go. Then we got a penalty and turned the puck over with 10 seconds, and the ringer guy came down and I stuffed him.... but.... the trailing guy picked up the puck from my guy who failed at a clearing attempt and roofed it before I could recover..... with 2 f-ing seconds on the clock.
DAMMIT!
Oh well.
The guy's pretty good... played for the Cobras here a couple years ago. I stopped 5 of his 7 breakaways, so I felt pretty decent. The other two were in the first period and I wasn't quite into the game or warmed up yet.
In other news, I am going to be absolutely dead by June 1st. Between tonite and then, I have AT LEAST four games a week, some with five or six. Some are doubled up consecutive on the same nights. And this isn't even counting any fill ins or my REGULAR team at Sports Plus yet. This is at the Indian Hill short session for the Spring between two teams in the same divison, and a third team in the upper division.
If no ones hears from me after June 1st, I will all my personal debt to Moto. :p

Game 2 - we came, we saw, we kicked their ass! Finally, everyone FINALLY showed up for a game. We had 13 or 14 skaters altogether. Their goalie was shelled, and I had one of my better games. We ended up winning 7-3. Game 3 is Saturday.
Also, had to stick around and play for one of the other teams, the Wolfhounds. They are in the same division. I helped them take their series 2-0, so if we win Saturday, we'll be playing them in the finals.
The Indian Hill upper division league is great! Lots of fairly fast passing, cycling the puck, actual power plays with actual penalty kills.... it's so much fun I can hardly stand it. We lost our first game in a close one, and play our second game tonite.
Should be lots of fun! Woot! :D:D:D

Ok, please vote. Here's the situation. My current "upper" team at Indian Hill is teh suxorz. I pride myself in being able to take a beating, and I know when I've been beaten and know that it was a good shot.... but the last two games with these guys have been an absolute nightmare. I can't count the number of 2 on 0's, and a handful of 3 on 0's... not to even mention the numerous flubbed passes and clearing attempts directly to the other team right in front of our net. Unbelievable.
I don't normally get mad, but I've finally had it with dip**** hockey in a league that's supposed to be somewhat "skilled". We don't clear the puck, when we do we never get possession, we make blind passes to nobody in the neutral zone and in the attacking zone, we don't maintain possession when we get the puck back in our zone, we dump it out to the other team waiting for it in the neutral zone.
When a failed pass out of the zone ends up on the other teams sticks, we make one sorry-ass attempt at cutting them off and then watch as two of them come in for a 2-0 chance at beating me. When there's a rebound in front me, I can only clear it so far, and no one comes in to assist. Three goals tonite were from low side rebound shots that I put to the corner, where no one came to get it except the other team, along with a guy coming down unimpeded in the slot. Bing bang goal.
To top it off, I actually had to "try out" for these clowns... half the time several of our better players don't show up, and when they do they play like ****. They don't pass, they miss the net, they don't play D, the one guy who really could be a threat feels obligated to pass it to his brother, who COULD be a good player if he'd manage to hit the damn net. Nice fancy moves and skating... oh yeah... that net on the other end... you might want to hit it. At least hit the other f-ing goalie for Christ's sake. OMGWTFMYTEAMSUX
The game before tonites I actually gave up half way through the second period when my OWN player, who had all the time on the world, passed the puck right to the other team, right in front of me, with no one else in the zone. Did he come back to help once he made the stupid pass? Are you kidding? Try? I don't think so. So I stood there like Jaques Plante and let him shoot. F- it. You aren't going to even TRY to play defense, I'm not either.
Find another goalie... this is ridiculous.:mad::mad:
