I am new to the forum but am going to pick up a set of pads from Battram so I figured I would contribute a review or a preview of my new mask. I came across Coveted Mask when a coworker got his mask shipped to the office, as soon as I saw it I e-mailed Ron and started the process of getting a full custom painted mask from Ron. As this is a preview (mask will arrive 1/31/2008) I will try to give an overview of the customer service and the process of getting the mask done, once I have played in the mask a few times I will give it a performance review.
I don’t want to put any words in Ron’s mouth but to my understanding you can either buy a mask from Ron (made by SportsMask, the maker of the Mage mask) or you can ship him your current mask. I was in need of a new mask so I went with his Coveted Z, he has 3 versions of this mask ranging from a reinforced Kevlar to a full Kevlar/Carbon fiber.
I e-mailed Ron and had a few questions about the mask as I have always used Itech masks and wanted to make sure the Coveted Z was going to hold up against the shots I face in my league. Ron reassured me that the mask was up to the task! Once I decided on the Z I was required to pay for the mask (~50% of the total cost) to start the design process. This is the fun part but also the most stressful as I was constantly changing my mind and trying to figure out what I wanted, Ron was very good about putting up with constant e-mailing and gave feedback when I needed it. I found the best way to get my thoughts across was to find pictures on the internet and describe how I wanted it changed.
Once I had finalized my ideas I sent Ron one last e-mail confirming my ideas and then I left it up to him, the process of him sketching on the mask takes about 1.5 – 2 weeks and let me tell you it is a painful 2 weeks as all I wanted to do was e-mail him asking if it was done yet. About half way through Ron sent me a picture with what he had come up with, I had sent Ron a lot of ideas for my mask and he was able to come up with something very cool. It was a bit different (in layout) then what I had wanted but was VERY cool and I gave him the OK to keep going with what he was doing. Ron’s ability to layout a mask is part of what makes him so good, he was able to take my ideas and make them work on a mask. After about another 3 days I got pictures of the final design to OK before he started painting, everything looked way better then what I had imagined.
The painting process took about a week and again it was hard not to bagger him via e-mail, after the first coat of paint Ron sent me another set of pictures to OK the colours etc. A final set of pictures were sent right before clear coating and that is where I am right now, I should be getting a final set of pictures with the clear coat on before it is shipped out the Alberta.
Overall I am very happy with how mask is turning out, the customer service has been great and the work is some of the best I have seen. I look forward to getting it in the mail and trying it on! I will keep you updated as to how it feels in game!
There is no way for my to upload my pictures right now but I will when I get home from work. Here is a link to what i looks like right now:
