Playing for a team that won this last year. I am in net for them because the regular goalie wants to skate out. The team isn't real happy about his desire. I am already getting the "you better play well" comments, but no worries, as the group is made up of good guys. There is one defenseman that plays so close to me that it is irritating. I told him about it during a scrimmage we had, but he says get used to it. This guy is pretty big, which makes for ugly screens, and he is kinda of a lazy skater. I am thinking a couple good whacks with my stick will move him away from the crease.....
How would you other goalies handle this????

Yea Moto.....I kinda think the stick to the calf will tell him that one....The reality is he has a great shot, but never leaves the defensive zone, so rarely shoots. The powers that be on this team need to coach/tell him how they want it done......if he can't or won't, then cut his ass.

Hey one question. Do the other team members realize that this guy is a Walking Screen?
I used to have problems with screens on one of my teams as well. After a screened goal the D man would come to me and asked what happened and before I could get the "Screened" word from my mouth one of our best players told him "Well you screened him dumb ass"
So if he is not taking direction from you maybe get one of the senior members to mention it to him.

TQ....I tried that during the scrimmage we had, and all he did was ignore the comment. I actually think he doesn't even realize he is doing it until it is too late.....and YES....the other teams' better players do use him as a screen. It pisses me off, but I am trying to just keep my focus, and be aware that when he hits the ice, watch for the screen shot even more.

We have another scrimmage tonight, and this is going to get addressed in the locker room before we play. I want the whole team to be aware of the issue, and any attitude that might be given out. I just haven't formulated the exact words, as I don't want it to destroy the team, but I do want it addressed.

I had a very similar situation come up last session. I had a defenseman that always wanted to try and knock down shots with his stick. He ended up tipping three shots past me during the season. I told him countless times to please not do that. I emailed the guy who ran our team and told him to please have a talk to him. He did and it seemed to work for a couple games until he went back to his old ways of screening me and trying to knock down shots with his stick. With three games to go in the season our captain called him and told him not to come back the remainder of the season. He told the guy he was sending him a check to cover the cost of the last three games. Eric pleaded with him to give him another chance. He played his best three hockey games of the season after that. Message sent and apparently received.

We win 4-3 This is against the team that is expected to be in the finals. Our coach said that they are sitting in their locker room saying they should have beat us.....I played real well, very square to all shots, the goals were a seeing eye dog through a bunch of skates, and two off the pipes, high.....the defensemen were more pissed about the goals then I was.....only faced twenty-three shots.....Two games tomorrow....I need to keep focused, play as I know I can...

We Win.....Played a better team, but really fought hard, skated with lots of drive, and managed to get to a shootout, scored tied 2-2......I LOVE THEM.....Typical shootout, three guys each team, they went first, we scored on our second shot, I stoned all three shots I faced.......play tonight, need to stay focused....

3-2 final score, we are Idaho Winter Games Champions.....A very closely played game, everyone on both sides gave all they had, we just had a bit more.......Low shots faced, pretty easy game from the goal perspective.....I hope this daily write-up didn't irritate any of you.....

Yes they really pissed me off. ;) J/K

Usually winning makes up for all the irritations of the season.

Wow....I was sure you were going to be just plain mad at me TQ....lol One good thing did come out of this tournament, the fulltime screen guy actually is getting better.....he is screening only about a quarter of the time, and if I say his name he knows he is screening me and moves.....the talk helped a bunch, and he will be a better player now.....
