Hey guys. I don't have much to do so I figured I'd write up a review of my Verge gloves. I bought the catcher used from Scjeff and the blocker from redheadhater. They both came in great condition and if you ever need a reference for those guys PM me. The gloves are non spec. The colors are white/red wv/black wv.
I'll start off by saying these were my first good set of gloves. My previous gloves were a Sher-wood sherlite 2 jr (I think?) it was puny and had litteraly plastic only for protection. I unlaced it and there was 1/4" foam and plastic for protection. My old blocker was a Vaughn B770 JR.
When I first got the catcher and put it on I thought "damn this thing weighs a ton!" But I was coming from a Jr catcher that was half the size. It has a hell of a lot more protection than my Sherlite though, which I'm thankful for. One of my friends almost broke my hand with his slapper! (80+ mph he's a freak!)
Protection
I swear this thing feels like it has a pro palm. As mentioned above one of my friends has a freakishly hard shot for his age.(15) He's the only one who gave me a stinger. Even my dad who shoots 70mph couldn't hurt me. (Yes he gives it his all when he shoots on me) I've taken quite a few blasters with this thing on and I'm glad I've been using this glove. Litterally EVERY shot hurt with my sherlite catcher.
I do play with adults who can shoot occasionally. There are also a few kids who have hard shots in my league. I've only had 1 serious stinger and 2 minor stingers, I've been shot everywhere with this thing on. The cuff, palm, finger, and thumb. I've been stung in the palm and cuff only.
Catching
This thing is a great glove for catching. I use it to block since it's to stiff for me to close completely. The thumb is angled towards the pocket to direct pucks into the pocket.(Obviously) It works great! Most of the time I don't even attempt to close it, I just let the glove direct it into the pocket or deflect it.
It has great closure, nice and flat and no room for the puck to sneak out anywhere. If you like to catch over block then I would highly recommend this to you! Although it's a bitch to break in.http://www.goaliestore.com/board/images/smilies/frown.gif I don't even need to close the glove most of the time thanks to the angle of the thumb, the puck is just directed to the pocket and stays there!

The glove is a GREAT feeling glove! If it wasn't for the pre spec sizing and stiffness I'd be keeping this beauty for a long time! It has a custom split tee which tends to collapse in on itself, but it's only cosmetic and doesn't affect performance at all. The inside strapping is nice and does it's job of keeping the glove where it belongs: on my hand.http://www.goaliestore.com/board/images/smilies/tongue.gif Although you can't tighten the wrist strap to much or it'll interfere with the closure of the glove. Oh well I like my gloves loose anyways.http://www.goaliestore.com/board/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
The backhand has great protection. Although you should never take a puck to the backhand, I managed to somehow accomplish that.http://www.goaliestore.com/board/images/smilies/redface.gif It did sting quite a bit but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I've been slashed a lot to and I never feel anything when I'm getting slashed other than a "thud" The backhand also covers you're fingers completely at all times, which is a bonus!
I removed the finger loops as I found I could close the glove easier and it felt a bit better without them. It has a cheater on the cuff which I find does nothing but stiffen up the cuff. I mean really it's only an extra inch or two it won't make much difference. The pocket isn't the deepest pocket especially when compared to for example a Brian's DX2 glove which has a HUGE pocket. (At least the one I saw did)
The glove is very comfortable as well. It's great for either a catching style or a blocking style. I use the blocking style but only because I can't close it. It's about a year old now and the durability is GREAT. There's not a single thing wrong with it after a year of use. I can't find anything that's fraying or anything negative that would harm the performance of the glove. The only wear is the usual puckmarks.
Now onto the blocker. It's old spec size, 16X8. White/red wv/black wv.
Protection
I've gotta admit the protection isn't nearly as good as I'd expect from a pro level glove. Maybe mine's a bad apple, who knows? The sidewall is practically bomb-proof. It has a nice air cushion in the sidewall which IMO is what all blockers should have. It deadens the puck, there's no pain at all and it takes up more space than a blocker without the air cushion.
Sadly almost every decent shot to the blocker other than the sidewall stings quite a bit. My Vaughn JR770 had more protection than this blocker in that matter. I got a semi-bruise from a hard slapper to the back of my hand. Other than that it's a great blocker.
I haven't run into any problems with the finger protection so far. So the fingers are well protected in this blocker. Although I wish it had that little piece of foam at the tip of the finger like the P2 blocker does. Just for that little bit extra protection when in the paddle down.
Other
The rebounds are very predictable off it and it's easy to direct them to the corners. It's nice and balanced to. The palm is in great condition and I believe it's about a year old now as well. There's not really much to say about a blocker though. It's a nice blocker and if I ever got it again it would be in NHL size and extra protection.
Overall this is a great glove set. Just a little stiff for my likings.
Protection- 8/10 (-2 from blocker)
Durability- Handcrafted in Canada! 10/10
Feel- 10/10 GREAT feel to the gloves!
