I have been using Myst blockers for the past few years now but lately my thumb has been taking a beating, due mostly to my penchant for using a lunging shaft poke check when guys deke to my blocker side along with paddle down moves. My stick often gets kicked out of my hand and my thumb has been getting bent/twisted as a result. I am wondering if one of your other Battram blockers might offer more thumb support/protection? Please let me know what you recommend. Thanks.

I have been playing goal for 40 years and I can't recall ever having my thumb twisted or bent. I am not sure I understand how it could possibly happen during paddle down or deke moves. Maybe you could explain in more detail what happens...

My thumb still hasn't healed from a ligament strain that happened more or less as you described last year. For reasons beyond explanation, I dropped from an upright stance to paddle-down and jammed my thumb into the ice.
The one blocker I tried that felt basically immune to this was the TPS Bionic, with its player-glove fingers and thumb. I've always wondered what Scott's take on that design might be.

It happens when I flop to my right (I catch left handed) with my blocker and stick shaft extended to force a deke wide. As I stretch out and sty to poke at the puck with my stick shaft, it often catches the players skate and gets kicked out of my hand and the force of it being kicked out of my hand strains my thumb. Also, because the thumb is already hurting it gets aggravated when I paddle down hard.:(
