Putting this in this forum since there isn't a general hockey forum (hint, hint, hint!)
This is a nice little read about the difficulties of hockey in Montana. A lot of times when I talk to other goalies about hockey they don't understand how small and remote our hockey communities are here. I thought this might give some insight.

damn, thats impressive...
I'll stop and think about this every time I find myself moaning about my 60 mile round trip
Are 'travel' teams this common? It sounds like there's no ice for hundreds of miles?

I'm lucky in that I live centrally to most of the bigger cities in Montana. For me, the next closest rink is an hour away. Most of our games are at least an hour and a half away, but we have driven 6 hours to get to a tourney.
I know one family that has two sons both on different teams. Dad takes one boy in one direction for games and Mom travels with their other son the opposite way. They can actually be 500 to 1000 miles away from each other on a weekend. To have your kid in hockey takes pure dedication, especially in Montana.

Don't worry. I lived in Newark NJ and drove an hour to the rink in Paterson, NJ. Sure there was a lot of traffic that caused the delay... an hour is an hour.

i drive 40min for every practice, i drive 1.30 to 2h for summer practice.

Try that as devotion to a game. :p

Devotion is nothing when you are doing something that you love. :D
Summer practice? You mean you have ice during the summer? Within a few weeks there won't be any ice left up in the state. Just another harsh reality of playing the game that I love here. :(
And for the record, Belgium would fit inside of Montana about 12 times. New Jersey 16 times.:p

Madam, how like you this play?

Anybody living where there's a pond or river that stays frozen all winter long doesn't need a rink. Y'all can STFU about driving times to rinks, bunch of softies.
:p
