Well a few weeks ago I finally met BoltThrower. Found out we are going to be battling out old skool style at SDIA (San Diego Ice Arena) Div5.
http://www.sdice.com/adultleague.htm#5
My Team the Rangers won the Presidents Cup for the Winter season before getting bumped out of the playoffs in the first round.
Jeremy's new team is the Vermin (The hated Vermin) They came in middle of the pack but never had a consistent goalie. I also think they had the most players ejected in a season. :D
This season I will be playing for my Rangers team and subbing on a few more teams SO I will keep everyone up on the battle of the two biggest goalies in GOALIELIFE.COM.
:D

Round one was a 7-1 Vermin victory vs. the Brews Bros. Had enough work to keep me busy but we really dominated them.
My bid for two consecutive shutouts ended late in the second. Bad guys got a breakaway and I bit on a fake shot, dropped. He moved around to my right, I dove to cover the low net and he just lifted it over me. Oh well, I'll take a victory like that any day of the week.

Well played two games this weekend.
One as a sub for the a team in the division above me and Bolty. 3 of my Rangers team jumped shipped and went up a division. Wanted more "competition." Played for the new team Spitfires against the Islanders. Islanders had all the same jersey except for one guy. Had about 35-40 shots and the new guy with the different jersey had all 3 goals. Spitfires must of had 10 shots. We lost 4-1 with an empty net goal.
Had our first pre-season for the Rangers. It was like Deja Vu. 30-35 shots my team gets off about 10ish. My team tonight has no concept of what to do when the enter the offensive zone. Our only goal was a point shot that pinballed in off 4 players. Lost 3-1.
Thank God it's only Preseason........:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::ma d::mad::mad:

We wrapped our preseason up with an 11-2 victory over the new team, the Grizzlies last night. Had enough work to keep me interested but not a ton of shots.
Season starts officially next week vs. the Gypsies (for the record, the most pansy ass name for a men's league hockey team I have ever heard).
Unless the schedule changes again (and it might) looks like Willy and I are facing off against each other on 6/1.

Had the stomach flu all week but decided I will play my game on Saturday Vs. Kingspiders. Last preseason game of the season.
We tied them 3-3. I am actually very happy with this. Only 2 of our regular 4 D-men were on hand for this game. We finally got some scoring. All in the first period, in the first 5 minutes. But for all the guys we had show up for this game I was pretty happy with the tie. Kingspiders used to be the whipping boys but have rehauled their team this season.
(Why would the Gypsies use NY Rangers Jerseys when there is already a Rangers team in the league )

I also want to know why any guy would want to start a team called the Gypsies? LOL

You should have the same outcome with the Gypsies as you did with the Grizzlies.
They have a couple of fast small Asian guys on that team. But they don't pass. :D

The Gypsies were hammering the Thunder after our game last week, although the Thunder were missing their best player, the guy with the white Jofa lid. This just a week after the Thunder dismantled F Street. Hard to tell who's good and who isn't until we play them. From what I gather my team's biggest issue last year was having a rotating cast of skaters playing net for them, and not enough regular attendance at games. Guys in the locker room are already talking about moving up for the Fall but we've got a long way to go for that IMO.

That is strange as F Street (Gotta love a team sponsored by an Adult Emporium) is probably the strongest team in our division.
Oh and expect our schedule to change at least 5-6 more times. :D

A challenge tonight! We got a run for our money from the Gypsies. We were up 4-1 early in the 3rd and they got two PP goals (one on a golf swing that shot straight over my shoulder while standing up and another on a blast from the point that deflected off of about three bodies before finding the net) to close the gap to 4-3.
In the final minute I stopped 7 or 8 shots to preserve the lead, including a HUGE left pad save...they passed from my left to right at the point and shot against the grain...I got good extension with the left leg and just got enough of the puck to drive it wide of the net. It was a hard earned victory for us!
I even got my first 5 minute major penalty. Guy lost his edge and slid into me and I had a kneejer reaction and got full backswing on him, nailing his across the cage with the paddle. Put a nice dent in his cage too. I apologized immediately for it, but the ref gave me 5 minutes.
I think Will was there taking pics for a few minutes, excited to see if he got any good ones.

Well we played our first game of the season against the new team the Grizzlies.
They are a better team than they showed in Pre-Season. Finally got thier team playing together. They really balanced their lines and put their stronger skaters on "D"
I felt my team really feel asleep in the first period, we had 1 shot on net and Grizzlies had more than 10 plus Many good scoring opportunities. Grizzlies scored on a screened shot through 4 players. 1-0 after 1.
I usually don't yell at my team but I came to the bench between periods and stated that we are not going to be in this game if we did not get any shots on net. It worked we really worked the goalie but were only up 2-1 after 2.
Got a quick goal on the PP in the 3rd and had the dreaded 2 goal lead. The best player on my team was skating behind my net gaining momentum to rush the play, so all my team rushed with him and were ahead of him, well as he is taking the turn on the side of my net he trips on his lace that had untied and gave up to the 2 Grizzlies in front of my net. 3-2 now. they pull thier goalie and get us hemmed down for the last 2:00 with us killing a penalty. well tehy get a point blank shot with 5 sec left that i get my right pad on and my Captain clears the puck. We head butt and both say, WE GOT FREAKIN LUCKY. :D
Win 3-2 (25shots)
(Someone please ask Jeremy of his 1st period Major penalty)

Yes i have some photos, unfortunately they are on my phone. not the best resolution. get them up tomorrow.
Have a question, don't you get kicked out of the game with a major penalty? :D

5-2 win over the Iceotopes tonight. I stopped 27 of 29, they played us tough, it was tied 1-1 until the last 5 minutes of the second period. I gave up a fluky first goal on a knuckleball shot from the top of the circle but I was strong after that. Still haven't surrendered a first period goal with this team yet!
Also got an assist! I made a save on a bad angle shot and put the rebound way out where a couple of my teammates were. One of them picked up the puck, went end to end and scored. I was really good handling the puck as well, had a couple of good hard clearing passes off the glass to teammates and a couple of really nice passes to the opposite blue line to teammates.
Stopped a breakaway and a couple of bang bang plays in the third to seal the victory. Bad guys scored on the PP with 4 min left to cut our lead to 4-2 but their G turned the puck over on a stickhandling gaffee and we put it in the open net to win 5-2.

We hammered the Kingspiders 8-2. They got both of their goals on bang bang passing plays in front of the net. I got peppered the first 10 minutes of the game and again the last period, with not many shots against in the second.
We now have two weeks off before Will and I face off on June 1st!

Well I never thought that a Adult League Refs could get much worse but last night was one of those nights I almost said F this league play.
We were playing the Gypsies and found out they brought in Ringers for us. Not sure why as we have lost alot of players from the winter but I guess our 1st place reputation from the winter is coming into play this summer.
We had over 60 minutes of penalties in the game, to say the refs called it uneven was laughable, even the captain of the other team after the game told our captain that it was their lowest penalty accumulation ever. we had 30 minors and they had 1. I am still pretty upset about the game and my losing my focus that I need a good whiskey. :D :D
Well we lost the game 7-5. We spent 12 minutes in the 3rd and 6 minutes in the 2nd down 2 men. I gave up 5 2men powerplay goals. Our team really got into the finger pointing during the game but came together after the game and will really I think play alot better next week.
To say this team got under our skin was an understatement. Also I think the two week layoff because of the bye really hurt us. I would say that 80% of our players only play our game all week.
Looking forward to our matchup with the Vermin. Should be a real slaughter for the Vermin. They really have good skater and pretty persistant D.

What do you think of Craig's "ID Card" idea to keep teams from bringing in ringers? I only watched the first period and the officiating was horrid even then. I thought it was only that bad when Brodie was reffing!
We only beat the Gypsies by a goal, we should have pretty good game in a couple weeks.
TQLAwilly
05-12-2008, 04:16 PM
I think the ID's will help in General but having Craig see or know the guys that are playing will help more.
The big Swedish guy that plays on the Gypsies, I don't think he was there when you had the 5 min major, he plays on Friday p/u and is one of the top players. He should not be playing Div5. But oh well.
I am now 1 minute away from your PIM's this year. Got two 2min minors for leaving the crease. 1st one was acceptable coming to the aid of one of my players getting mauled by two guys, the other was effing ridiculous.
One day I wished Brodie was there...........

If you mean #2, the guy with the white helmet/cage he was there when we played them. He is too good for our division but most of the time he just winds up. There are definitely some annoying players on that team though!
Who do you guys play this week before the Memorial Day break?
TQLAwilly
05-12-2008, 04:50 PM
We play the Lightning. Who do you all play?
That guy must of had 10 shots on net. Never scoring on a shot but when he get the puck in front of my net for 4 times and my D man who is 5'5" tries to battle the 6'4" monster he had 4 goals.

Ever have one of those games, weeks, seasons when you just say Eff this place, i'm going home.
We played the Lightning this week. This is a team we usually own. Well I had only 7 players show up. Not my top 7 players, most of the guys who show up are genuine Div 5 players. We had one of our top guys but he is in his mid 50's so he could only do so much.
The Lightning brought in 2 Subs, I know both of them as the both play on my Tuesday night private pickup. They are better than any of the Lightning players.
Well the game started out ok. We scored first and Kinda controlled the play, not dominate but very defensive. Then it happened. Their second sub came and it was downhill from there. We could contain one fast guy but not two. They scored and tied it up. So it was 1-1 after 1 period. Our shots 5 their shots 15.
We held our own for the first 5 minutes of the second but then they started coming on in waves. But I pretty much was winded after the 2nd. We had a feable 7 shot on net in the second to 20 from the lighting. 2-1 after 2.
The third started off with a 5-5 powerplay for about 4 minutes. :) we could not get the puck out of our zone. This killed me as everytime i would try and freeze the puck one of my team would try and ice it and would get stopped at the line. they scored 3 more times with us getting nothing. we lost 5-1 with shots at us 20 lightning 50. they were rolling 15 skater to our 7.
The lightning captain spouted off to one of my team that the guys that showed up really did not make a difference, even though they scored 4 of the 5 goals. ??
What really bugs me is after the game we have guys saying, that was a fun game or i felt really good.

TQLAwilly,
Lemme see! 45 saves on 50 shots makes it a 90 save percentage, which is outstanding for amateur players. Looks to me like on the part you controlled, it was a great game. Being outshot all game long and being beaten by only four goal, it is no wonder your team feels good about the outcome.
It sounds to me you are bothered by things you had/have no control over. Let it go. You can't make it better. Just look forward to your next outing and just be ready to be sharp again......

Thanks Jester, I was kinda just venting. :) I think that sometimes that immediately after a game I only see the score or the other team. Now a couple of days afterward I remember most of their guys coming up to me during the game and giving me the "your in the zone" or "please give me a soft goal" LOL

So we had no games this weekend because of the holiday and some kids ice dancing tournament, but my captain and his buddy who is a captain of another team in our division always get the ice when we get these off weekends.
So we had no games but lots of ice, and Bolty was good enough to come out and enjoy some of the free ice.
Another few teams had the ice after us and I got a call from a buddy of mine who is the goalie, well it seems he ripped his big toe nail off :( surfing this morning. So I got an extra hr and 15 mins.
Now i can barely type i am so freaking tired............:o
Next week Is the Matchup of Bolty and Me. No cage match or bashing each other with folding chairs just ice hockey.

Well all I can say is I am glad that game was over.
I am sure Jeremy can chime in and say that was probably the worst reffed game and then his team kinda lost it after the Napoleon Complex Ref Kicked out 3 of their players.
So if we were keeping score it was 3 - 1. I had one guy kicked out on my team and Jeremy 3.
I told Jeremy that my team and the his team had a history. Every time we have played them they have had at least 1 guy kicked out. Last time we played them in the winter one of his teammates hit a ref.
Jeremy's team had alot of Penalties but I think that was becuase the Ref really has it in for them.
Well the final was 5-3 for the Vermin's first lost. Jeremy played really great, but just too many penalties.
After our game I played for another team in the Division above and got the win as well 4-2 (30+ saves)

Wil played outstanding for his team. We were up 3-1 going into the third and the Rangers scored 4 goals in the final period, all of them in 5 on 3 situations.
We are going so far as to petition USA hockey about the officials...
This would've been a great game if not for the officiating BS.

Happens all the time in this country.
Rec teams you play over the winter are of a similar standard, then in the Summer they seem to magically 'find' these new guys (most of whom have been gassed or dropped out of one of the leagues during the season).
We played Solihull in a mini tournament last July, beat them 2-1 and all was pretty even.
Played them in a full game about 6 weeks ago - their top line had one former Premier League D man, a National League centre and a Canadian D man who was probable National league standard.
They also had a couple of former Premier Division/Division 1league players from the mid 90's.
Most of our guys played division 3 at best in the Mid 90's - and the game has moved on ALOT since then
Needless to say we got humped.
It's happened previously against this team as well - one Summer we played them and I faced 87 shots :D
I like playing against higher guys, it's a challenge for me and it lets me see where I am compared to some of the 'league standard players'.
But when the team in front of you is just getting shredded, it's hard in many ways.
Many times I've felt like telling them where to stick it and quitting simple because they don't seem to learn, or want to learn.
I'm to used to having certain things happen in front of me from my time with the local USAF team I think.

Stopped 32 of 33 in a solid win vs. the Grizzlies tonight. Most of my team showed up hung over so I got peppered a bit more than I was expecting! I played very well and had the SO going until about 7 minutes left in the third. Their best player got a breakway, I bit on his fake to the left and then threw myself to the right with him, diving and just getting the paddle on it but not enough to keep it from going in.
I'll be out the next 3 games and Will in slated to be in net for us for two of them I believe.

Well we had our first game against the Storm this season. We had previously never lost to this team. Shut them out 3 times and actually never had a goal scored against me.
Well this time was different, they have picked up a few players and had a sub goalie from a few division higher than us. LOL.
Plus our team is kind of in disarray this week. Our captain lost his mom on Thursday after 6 months in and out of the hospital, had one player lost because of me and Jeremy's circus game last week and our best player/defensemen was on a cruise with his wife.
Well I could tell after the first period we were in trouble. Got out shot 12-2 but left the 1st period tied 1-1. Second period was about the same, i actually felt good only being down 3-1. Third was total Cluster Puck. Something about stopping 1st 3 shots then getting scored on the 4th. LOL. All in all was a pretty ****ty loss. 6-2.

Will played great subbing for me (out due to surgery) tonight in a 5-2 win over the Lightning. Both goals against him were luck, one on a flukey bounce and another on a guy left wide open in front of the net. He will be in net for us again next week.

Found out that the exhaust fan that gets rid of the warm air in the rink is broken. So both games were reminiscent of a certain Boston Garden game back in the day. :)
Rangers -
Well had our game on Saturday night against the Thunder, a team notorious for grabbing players from divisions above ours and plugging them into thier team just before the drop of the puck. Well our new system has caused them never to do that again. (Hopefully)
Had a really bad 1st period got caught with 3 goals in the first period. Then went into total control, just made sure no more were going in. Funny how sometimes when you really put your mind to it everything works. I guess it is 80% mental. LOL. well we were down 3-1 after the first and won 6-3.
Vermin -
Well Saturday after my Rangers game I had thought I was not playing for the Vermin as thier captain had told Jeremy that he had a goalie. So I went out with the boys to our new local bar near the rink ($6 pitcher) So checked my GL PM on Sunday and looks like they need me now. Old, tired and hungover I managed to get my sorry ass down to the rink.
Had a bad first period really bouncing puck, second period had a bang bang goal but after that all the booze seemed like it left my body. :D played pretty solid. team played good too as we only had 7 skaters to the 12 of the lightning. We won 5-2.
Thanks Jeremy for taking pictures,

Well had two games again this weekend.
Rangers.
We played the Iceotopes 5. Good team, they have another team in Div3. This team actually gets team practices one a month, working on their breakouts, defense and such. But in the end they are just another D5 team, you never know who will show up.
This game for me did not start, end or any part really go good. It was 100 degrees out and we had really wet ice. So puck handling was crappy. Gave up 2 crappy goals, had major brain farts. Was not in the game for the first 2 periods. But my Ranger team is not good at coming back. So we lost 6-2. Very frustrating game.
Halftime.
So my Rangers game was at 3:00 and my Vermin game was at 8:50pm. So me and some of my Rangers went had a few beers at our local bar. And of course some Wendy's after that. (4pitchers between 4 guys)
Vermin.
We played the Brews Brother. Besides the Vermin they are the most chippy team in the league. So after the horrible game earlier, the beer and the Wendy's I was not really expecting a good performance.
Surprisingly I played really good, I think my first game i was too stressed or something. I was pretty mellow and laidback for the Vermin game and carried the shutout to 8min of the 3rd. Beat low glove with 3 guys in front of me. Good game as we won 4-1.
All in all a good weekend.

F-Street is probably the best all around team in our division. Great passing and great guys. Their captain is also the best ref we have on in San Diego. Is funny that all the teams don't care we play against him and have him as a ref.
Well game is as follows:
Stood on my head in the first. got outshot like 20-2.
let up a PP goal then a 2 on 0 breakaway. Then a guy that walked in and got a on the tape pass, we scored on a PP. so we got outshot 15-5 in the 2nd.
Then the 3rd, so we are down 3-1, i see how we are playing. we are getting no shots on goal, we had 14 guys show up so i got 3 dmen that are not dmen. i am not feeling this game. well they score another goal, this guy blows around my up high dman, walks around the 2nd who came from the other side now i got nobody on the backside, with a guy breaking, well the puck carrier puts a beautiful shot over my shoulder. i am done with this game. :) next goal i knew i was done, guy comes up over the blueline and takes a hard knuckleball slapper, after it came off his stick i lose it, not sure if it is something wrong with my eyes or just my old eyes getting older, LOL. well all that being said we lost 6-1. Outshot 50-15, I am getting tired. mentally and physically.
Plus i played for the storm against Jeremy's team and they had non-existent Dman as well. Just my luck.

Well had my game on Saturday Night with my Rangers team against the Kingspiders. If you have read any of the past post my team is not very good, and its getting worse. LOL.
Kingspiders are not a good team but again better than the Rangers.
Played very good in 1st period, had 15 shots but no goals, tied 0-0.
2nd period was when it started going down hill, was scored on a goal that my D man had a beautiful tip on me. Second goal was on the PP that none of my team listened to me when i asked if anyone had the back post. We scored on a goal that was very questionable. 2-1 out shot now 25-10.
3rd Period my Left winger is playing Right wing with our Right wing, the puck goes right to his Man he is supposed to be covering and shots a great shot over my Right shoulder, great shot but he should have been covered. We get a late goal but we cannot buy a tying goal. Lose 3-2.
Oh well I am off to play for Jeremy with the Vermin. :)

Well we shut them out 10-0 for the first 2periods and 6minutes, then we had a fluky goal. I could tell that the team was kinda, we are up 10-1, we havve this game, i am going to hold back, so they scored a few more, but Vermin did to. and final score was 12-4. Thunder were never in this game, if Vermin would have had a few more shots on goal they would have gotten to 20. I am sure of that. :)
3-0-0 with the vermin this year, Thanks Jeremy but get better. Playing for the Vermin is tarnishing my good name. ;)

Anyways the playoffs are totally different in this league, well they were in the past with teams that sucked all of a sudden playing really good, with all their good guys showing up. :)

well getting to the rink Sunday I felt pretty good. I have this new attitude for my team, its the "I don't give a ****" attitude. This helped after getting the call from my captain that our best players were not coming and he was not coming either, he is one of my best physical d-men. IDGAF!!!!!
So I was pretty happy to see the 3 coolers of beer in the locker room. Should have had a few before the game.
So after the first it was 5-0 for the bad guys. Had one bad goal, but it was the 5th goal, I had totally lost faith in the 7 guys in front of me. LOL. We had 7 guys show up. not our best 7 either.
Well the 5 goals either pissed me off or woke me up as I pretty much shut them down, also my team actually started helping by playing some D. Started in the end of the 1st as I stopped thier best player 2 times.
Well we lost 6-0 after getting outshot 50ish to 10. Polished off at least one of the coolers of beer to get game out of my system. :D
Double header next week. Probably have our Rangers BBQ as well.

Bad week for us too...we were down 3-1 heading into the third and we got desperate and sloppy, stopped playing our game. Ref allowed a couple of goals by the bad guys that were clearly kicked in but in the end it wouldn't have mattered. I made a ton of good saves but did make some awareness mistakes having not played in a game in a month. We lose to F Street 8-3. We have one more tuneup game against the Kingspiders, who we spanked earlier this season, and then the playoffs. Will have to wait to see if they put us in first or second, we have the same record as F Street (somebody told us they had two losses but standings say 1) if you include the Ranger forfeit game, but they have the head to head and we are dead even in goals for now.
Meanwhile I am going to play my ass off the next two weeks are prepare for hopefully an eventual rematch against F Street in the finals. Last week should serve as a wake up call that we cannot take any team lightly.

Play Brews Brothers for our first game of a Sat/Sun double header. My team the Rangers is officially contending for last place. :D We have not really had a consistant turnout and the ones that have showing up are the bottom 5 but we still have fun, beer afterwards and sometimes to our local bar.
Well we played the Brews Brothers on Saturday, they are like us one of the oldest teams in the league, their goalie is over 65 and a great stand-up goalie, he hurt his shoulder and has one of the kids from the pro shop playing for him this summer.
We had a pretty good game with the team we put on the ice, all in all I faced about 45 shots (I think I face the most shots in the league :D ). We tied the game with 3min left in the 3rd. Final was 4-4.
Bruce the Brews Brothers Goalie had a MRI and has to have surgery in 2weeks so he is playing his game on Sunday. So he will play today then be off for 6 months. I hope I can still be playing when I am 65.

My team calls me Rainman, due to the ridiculous stats I keep up with Example.....
Last 49 games 26 wins 18 losses 5 ties
2.46 G.A.A. and 1246 saves on 1359 shots or roughly 92%, but just in the C league.
We have won the championship regular and post season in a 4 team league now, 4 cycles in to the teams existance. The Blue Bombers.
Anyway, I am hurt with groin injury and probably won't make it back until fall cycle. It really blows caues I had just posted back to back eggs for first time in 330 starts ice and inline combined. One was a 40 save jewel, and the other, I grabbed 16 of 16 in regulation, and won 2 to 1 in shootout. Then ofcourse filling in for another team next game I got hurt. 7 shots in and none alllowed, but that seventh shot, a horrible rebound squeaked across the goal crease to wide open back door guy, and I pulled it trying to make a right leg kick save. What you read on the website was no lie. We beat the 1st place team 3-1 last night. I channelled some Patrick Roy, Roberto Loungo and Kirk McLean as I had the shut out going til 48 seconds in the 3rd.
We totally frustrated them. Had just about my team from the winter in front of me as we had about 5 players that were either hurt or out of town.
They had 14 players and we thought we were going to get plowed but we just attacked all night long and kept our head. Our one hot head was kept under check except for the last 5 minutes in the second when he got a 2 minute unsportsman like. I am not sure he will be back next season.
They got really chippy in the 3rd, they must of had 45 shots on me and I was making it look very academic. LOL.
Final shots for the game were like 46-20. My best game of the season.

Ken the captain for the Lightning is back in the hospital after taking his fall into the boards on Saturday night.
Jim from his team told us he was playing D going for the forward with the puck toward the boards, the player lost balance and Ken tripped over him in the danger area of 4-5 feet from the boards. He hit head first and dislocated both Shoulders. His one shoulder will not stay in place so he had to go back today.
Bill our team doctor said that if they can not get it back he will probably have to have surgery. So he is either forced into an early Hockey retirement or long rehab. Knowing Ken its the latter.

Had our Late Ass Game on Friday.
I really think 11:40pm on a Friday is too freakin late to play hockey, was really not feeling it on the way to the rink.
We have 10 guys show up, watching the Kingspiders in the warmup I imagine we are going to get woreed.
Well we make it 2-0 in the first. Not that many shots but we are getting our chances and burying them.
2nd period my D-Man who is experimenting playing D, switched from winger as an emergency during the begining of the season who wanted to play more:rolleyes:, does not take cover the back door on two plays. We score a late one and its 3-2 going into the 3rd. Same shots on net not that many.
3rd period much of the same, our 65 year old winger had the 1st star tonight, the Kingspiders best player must have tried to go around him 15 times and he picked his pocket or generally disrupted his skating 14 of those 15 times. We score another goal in the middle of the period to go up 4-2. We really took the brunt of the storm in the 2nd half of the 3rd. We handled pretty well but one of their rambunctious players kept trying to play physical against us and one of my D had to show him the way.
Well he got a 10min so we were down to 3 D for the last 3min. I let in a pretty funny goal for their 3rd. Shot from the point gets tipped and is slowly rolling to me, I go down and am just about to cover it when my captain skates next to me to block the forward skating in on me. Well he skated right on me and pretty much laid a body check on me and I opened up and the puck just dribbled in on me. :D:D:D
We had a pretty good laugh and won 4-3.
I guess this was a playoff game for the coveted "Toilet Bowl" so we will play the winner of the Lightning vs. Brews Brothers. Both Brews Brothers goalies are hurt so I will be subbing today. Really can decide our future match. ;)

Man that was the most intense "exhibition" game I have ever played in! I spotted F Street a one goal lead - they cleared the puck down the ice and I had my arm up for the icing. The puck was rolling on edge and changed directions at the last second. I sort of half assed hacked at it with my stick and it went in, totally caught me by surprise.
Rest of the game I was rock solid, stopping 23 of 25 total. Had to make some big saves late in the third when we were clinging to a one goal lead. We potted an empty netter to win 4-2. If their goalie hadn't had a pretty good game we'd have slaughtered them. We carried the play for long periods of time in their zone and both of their goals were flukes. We know that we can beat these guys now if we meet them in the championship game. I wouldn't be surprised to see them get upset first though, they were upset and yelling at each other on the bench, they seemed to be coming unraveled!
Now for the big drama: The Storm beat Iceotopes in the first playoff game, no drama there. The Grizzlies led the Gypsies for most of two periods and looked like they would pull off a huge upset. The Gypsies tied it late in the second and scored the GWG with less than a minute left, shorthanded even.
BUT, the Gypsies got caught red handed using at least two non roster players and it will bite them in the ass. The scorekeeper and both captains were aware of it at games end, so Gypsies should be made to forfeit the contest and the Grizzlies should advance to the next round.

Played for the Brews Brothers on Sunday vs the Lightning.
Kinda wierd playing this game as the winner plays my team the Rangers next week.
Was tied after first period 1-1. gave up a flukey knuckleball shot that I swear moved up down up down down. Strangest shot I have ever seen.
Was a pretty mellow game with only a few flare ups. I know both teams pretty well and was not surprised who the other team brought out as subs for the injured Ken.
Brews Brothers played very flat, not really into the game. I played them last week and there was a real fire in their play that was not evident on Sunday.
We ended up losing 4-3 as my D were not challenging the forwards and I was getting way too deep in my net. At least my team will not do that and I got to see what shots I will be facing next weekend.
Hopefully we can hold on and with the coveted "Toilet Bowl" for the lower teams in Div5. :D

1st was with the Rangers on Saturday Night. Played the Lightning and had a pretty bad game but the team had a scoring explosion. Was fighting the puck all night but came out ahead 5-7. So the Rangers are playing the winner of the Kingspider vs. Thunder. Went to the our local bar afterward so now I cannot really remember most of the game. :D
Played for the Vermin tonight vs the Gypsies. Was fighting the puck tonight a little too. Need some more on ice skating this week. But all in all it was a pretty good game. 3 Screened goals, 1 Breakaway goal, 2 I can't remember possibly still hungover. :D We will be playing F-Street next week.
So I have two Finals next week. One with the Vermin for the Div5 Cup and with the Rangers for the Toilet Bowl Cup. :D

One funny thing happened to me when I was leaving the locker room. Got out and our locker rooms were at the end where the players benches are, so you have to walk by them to leave.
Well Kevin (Goalie that works in the proshop) was skating as a winger for the Visitor team, the second bench you have to walk by. So the first bench is the Home team. Well I had just got out of the locker room and saw him and had to give him some heckling. :D I am yelling at him telling him he should be wearing pads, then he misses a sure goal and I really lay into him.
Well one of the Home team Dmen yells at me to shut up he does not want to hear me or anyone else just his team. (Didnt realize I as golfing:cool:) I ask why? He says if i don't shut up he will get the ref to kick me out?
Well this guy was 5'8" with skates. I am just a lil fella and told him, theres the ref right there why don't you ask him. (felt like pounding the piss out of him, see Jeremy I play 4 games for your Vermin and I get all violent :D )
Well the ref just laughed and "asked" me to at least goto the Visitors bench. So I walk the 20 feet and laugh it up with the other team. They start yelling at him and he is flustered. I just yell at him that now that we know your weekness its on like Donkey Kong. LOL. Number 12 with glasses and a full cage.
Had a good laugh with at least 5 guys leaving the rink about that one. :)

So I get to play in both the Div5.1 and Div5.2 Championship games.
Div5.2 is on Saturday 7:25 vs the Kingspiders. Went 1-1 vs them this season but our loss was at the beginning of the season.
Div5.1 is on Sunday 4:35 vs F-Street. Also went 1-1 vs them. First game was total blowout for them. they had all their upper division players and against my Ranger team it was a blood bath. Second game they had their full roster as well but had them shutout till 48sec left in the 3rd. So with the Vermin it should be a really close game. Plus with Jeremy coaching me between periods I should be pretty rock solid.
So this is the last week of the Summer Season. I have had my ups and downs but all in all it was a fun and eventful season playing for Div5, Div4 and Div3. Also helping out a fellow goalie brother makes for a good feeling on the season as well.
Next week our rink is holding a San Diego Gulls Alumni vs. US Military charity game on the 16th at 7pm. All proceeds goto the Wounded Warrior Fund and SDIA Youth Hockey.
The final games of the SDIA Adult hockey season are on the 17th for the Captains game and the Division All Stars. This will be our first All Star Games in our Adult Hockey League.
Our Hockey Director is pretty good at getting more games for us and I actually think he did a far better job than our previous Director.
Bring on the Winter!!!

Cool, I was gonna call today and make sure you knew when gametime was, you've already got it covered.
Not sure what we're going to do at the beginning of the season, I am going to remain on the Vermin as we are moving up to D4 for the Winter (apparently F St, Gypsies and one other team are as well) but I will probably not be back on the ice until sometime in October. So depending on what you're doing for the Winter you might have the opportunity to play with us in D4 for a couple months while I am recovering.

So tonight Will played for us (Vermin) in our championship game vs. F Street.
Will played a GREAT game. The bad guys scored first when they sent one of their guys cherrypicking behind our D, he went 5 hole on Will. After that, Will was bulletproof!
We tied the game at 1 in the third and then scored the game winner with 1:11 left. The Vermin are Summer league D5 champs!
Here's a nice team pic (including yours truly), Will is buried waaaayy in the back though :(

Well I had two Div5 Championship Games this weekend.
Played the Div5.2 game for the Rangers vs. Kingspiders on Saturday night. We really squeezed out a Victory in a run and gun game. Both sides left their Defensive games at homes. The game was back and forth all night, we score they score, they score we score. Finally going into the 3rd we finally go up 2 goals and my D'men finally show up. win 8-6. Div5.2 Champs!!!!
Few of us went out and had a few beers and had a great time. Got home around 1am.
Got a call at 7am. My buddies in Riverside want me to play Pickup. I drag my sorry ass out and play for 1.5hr in the AM.
Get to the San Diego Rink for my 2nd Championship game for the Vermin Vs. F-Street. I am surprised I was not totally wiped out for the game but was really pumped for it. Both teams were really playing great D. Both me and Jeremy noticed that F-Street brought in a Div4 Goalie for the game but **** that I could tell it was a Vermin type of night. :D We really pelted that goalie in the first 2 periods but he really stood on his head. 1st period I had 2 break aways that I stopped, one I totally lost track of but made the save. 2nd period on a breakaway, I got beat moving to one side five hole. After that I was pretty much on it, channeled my inner goalie and became one with the force. Like Jeremy said we were going into the 3rd down 1-0 but I knew we were not getting shut out. Vermin nation came through and We won 2-1. Div5.1 Champs!!!
So my weekend was pretty good with 2 Championships in 2 days.
Now I can barely type this and keep my eyes open and my legs are pretty much noodles. LOL.

It's almost like I am photoshopped in. LOL. Still laughing about Jason's mom, her voice telecasting over the rink for 12 on Fstreet to "get over yourself!!!"
How was the afterparty? sorry i could not make it. was uber tired and its kinda a long ass drive for me.

Afterparty was cool, just a handful of guys hanging out for a couple of hours. Smoked a couple of cigars and talked about next season, etc.

So get this, from the captain's meeting:
Vermin and Gypsies are moving up to D4 for the Winter. F Street says they have "too many players over 40 and can't compete in D4..." so they are staying down. Cobra East are moving down from D3 to D4.
Sounds like a steaming pile of Bull**** to me!

Well after Bolty got hurt we kinda left this thread die.
I skated for a few preseason games for his old team the Vermin in the PreSeason, typical preseaon not many guy show up and i think I went 0-1-1 in 2 games.
My team the Rangers lost 3 guys and our Captain only played a handful of games. So we played many games with 7-8 guys.
Got the call from the Vermin captain that they got a full time goalie, so the team I helped win the Div5 for got someone else. :D
Rangers were up and down all season, got three new players, girl who had never played before, 70 yr old and a 20yr old kid who thought he was the next coming of Crosby. Unfortunately when he stepped on the ice he could not skate, shoot or pass. 70yr old lasted 1game, the girl lasted 3 games and the 20yr old lasted until the captain found out from the hockey director that he did not pay, then he dissappeared. so again short handed.
Another team that i play for in div4 the spitfires, thier goalie plays out lots so i had gotten the call to play for them about 5 times in the season.
Rangers finally got some subs that were going to stick 5wks prior to the playoffs. good guys and can actually skate. Rangers came in 2nd in our division we played our arch rivals the Lightning for the finals and won 4-1 were to play the other div5 winner but they forfieted our game so technically we are the DIV5 Total champs.

Was lucky enough to get on with my buddies div4 team as they were short handed, won a thriller to get into the playoffs and went 2-0 in the round robin to win the Div4 title as well.

I thought this winter was not going to be that great but it all worked out better than I thought, now we just gotta get Bolty back.

Hey Bolt, what's it cost to go see an NHL game out there? I hear there are some good deals to be had in some U.S. markets but I'm guessing L.A. isn't one of them.
Here in T.O. it costs a small fortune to see the Leafs, therefore I've NEVER been.
I've had tickets offered to me (I think they were golds valued at $190.00 CDN each) but had my own game scheduled and I'd rather play than watch any day.
That's pretty kool you and Willy are in the same league...

Actually LA is one of the league's most affordable ticket prices. I believe the cheapest tickets, the last couple rows behind the nets in the upper bowl are around $20.
