I just went over to sports swap (local group of stores in calgary) and I have never seen a sharpening like this before… there is a deep U cut into my skate. So if you are looking at the skate blade (boot facing down) you can is a well cut into the skate (U)… most of the time I come back from getting them done (at my local rink) they have an edge but I can’t see this well.

My question is, is this just a crazy sharp skate? I like a sharp skate but not something that is going to prevent me from getting proper moved.

Someone school me on sharpening.

what did u get them cut at ? if you can look at them and see it that much, your going to have a lot of bite on the ice, and youll notice it right off the bat, it might even be harder for you if your not used to it, I had mine done once before a game and didnt get my normal cut, and ended up on my ass half the time from gripping the ice more than I wanted too !
its odd to see, but it happened.

3/4 isn't an overly sharp skate, 5/8 is a standard cut for goalies.

Sounds like you've had something much sharper, 1/2 or less. You are going to have a tough time skating if this is the case as you are used to 3/4. I would suggest going back and getting them to resharpen your skates.

That U shape is your hallow.
If you can see it that much on a goalie skate it is going to be too sharp.

Did you go to the one in the NE by Sunridge? Cause they did the same thing to mine. Most of these places don't really know much about the proper radius for goalie skates. They sharpen player and goalie skates the same.

A safe bet due to the fact that most people actually sharpening skates know "jack", is to ask them if they can sharpen at the hollow you request instead of just telling that. Most places including the place I work at (Simmons) are only set up for one hollow, not several so just don't assume, ask.
