View Full Version : Rockhell's Summer Season
Rockhell

Because I'm apparently insane, Ive signed myself up to play 3 nights this summer.
Sunday - Chesswood for "Chicks with Sticks" or whatever name they decide to use...
Monday - Moss Park for "Gang Green"
Wednesday - Rinx but as a forward for "Chimeras" :O :O :O
The Moss Park league starts next week, the other 2 not until the first or 2nd week of May. I'll do my best to keep a log or track of how I've done after each game if anybody cares to read it lol.
It will be sort of interesting to see how it goes, because this will be my first time ever playing at Moss Park - don't know anybody on the team. I've subbed in as goalie lots of times for the Chimeras over the past year, but decided to give playing out a go for the first time in my life. As long as I don't starfish every game I'll be happy.

Right on - what night? It was her that actually pointed me in the direction of the Moss Park league! Tell her thanks for me!
First night was tonight - I got there quite early, and one of the teams that were on before my game didn't have a goalie. I suited up early and went on a few minutes into the 2nd period to finish the game for them.
My game - we lost 3-2. We were up 2-0 in the first, but then my team just completley fell apart in the 2nd period. They were scrambling for the puck, doing bad giveaways, poor passing etc. Got scored on 3 times that period. Id normally be pretty happy about that on a Monday night but not in this case :P
3rd period my team was still pretty shakey but they managed to pull it together somewhat. I pulled myself with about 40 seconds to go. Close, but no cigar.
For a first game of the season - in a brand new league (to me), new team, new people, new opponents, I thought it was a nice start.
I had only played shinny for the past couple of weeks, so I had to get it in my head to freeze the puck instead of just forking it away or something.
I really enjoyed the pace too - alot faster than what I've been playing up to this point, so I think it will be a good season!
.....and I look damn good in my new green Minnesota Wild jersey.

She's at the rink right now, playing at 10 pm. Not sure the team name...
Good luck!
PS: Do me a favour if you think about it: an old friend of mine plays on the Minnesota Wild - Brent Burns. Gloria & I have a running joke about it so it would be really funny if you casually mentioned to her that the Minnesota jersey you are wearing was a 'gift' from your 'good buddy' Brent Burns... she will crap her pants and it will be hilarious, trust me. :)

We lost 2-0 on Monday - vs Gloria's team lol. They were all over us - whole game was in my end pretty much.
Tongiht though - I made my debut as a forward in a league!!! I played D - and I even got an ASSIST @#%@#^@$&^%#@$&^#%$@#@#@
Im SOOO stoked about that. We won 4-2, and I wasn't on the ice for any of their goals so I guess that makes me a +1 :D

Too bad about the loss...I had the chance to play coed B, but my husband forced me to have some sort of "Off season."
Saw a couple of my teammates this weekend and they said I should be glad not to have played...they lost 22-1. They ran out of lines on the scorers sheet!

they lost 22-1
we now stop at 12 goals is the opposition can't managed a single one
running up the score-line really pisses me off to tell the truth

Yay! Played my ass off tonight and got another shutout. My Sunday team also scored their first goal of the season. We won 1-0.
They had some pretty decent players on their team, but I don't know - things were just working right tonight. Felt awesome. I also totally robbed this chick on this short range wrister - snagged it right out of the air 2 ft after it left her stick. Felt pretty sick!

Tonight we won 5-0. Im on a 3-game shutout streak - woohoo!
At one point in the game it was a total screen-board scenario. Thankfully I reacted fast enough.

Got my 4th consecutive shutout tonight.
It was a pretty even game, with some pretty decent slappers taken at me. I found myself using the 'kipper catch' I was stopping the puck but I couldnt trap it. It fell down infront of me where i either cleared it or pounced on it.
There was a bit of a scramble right at the end of the 1st period - where i knew i had the puck.... somewhere - but didnt want to do a Fleury - so I put my glove hand behind my back on the ice (a la wipe my bum lol) as a block thingy. First time I ever did that in a game - puck stayed out - my team was totally amazed at my god given talent haha.
Oh and I actually went out to play the puck once - that is a big deal! I don't often do that because im not that confident yet in that dept.. im glad there was alot of focus on that at the Woodstock clinics. IM going to make a point of playing the puck at least once a game - then once a period - and try increase it from that - get more active with it.
It was a good game though.
My team commented afterwards how calm I seem when I'm playing...
I love being a goalie.

Rachel,
Sounds like you need to step up a level and try some faster skates to keep challenged... it's the only way to get better, trust me.

I think yer right - I thought I was taking a step up by joining this league, but maybe not big enough of one.

06-13-2008, 01:21 PM
It doesn't sound all that much of a step - for a goalie to make a comment using the words "some pretty decent slappers taken at me" suggests the league might not be all that strong.
Congrats on the shut out streak, but def worth looking at your next step IMHO

well, the teams im playing with/against now would completely slaughter the teams I was playing on before.... I guess part of me is still thinking that maybe I'm not good enough.

Hey Rach!
Like you and I have both discussed, you're a very solid goaltender and should believe in your abilities to play and succeed at higher levels of hockey.
If you feel extra ambitous, I am in the "A" division @ Chesswood on Sundays that I can't make from time to time. The team I play for is very strong so you will only see a handful of shots. This will obviously allow for you to adjust to the faster pace and intensity of the game without being shellshocked.
Let me know, I think you're gonna be suprised @ how well you will be able keep up!

Can I play for them? :D

Im almost afraid to say it now...
Got my 5th SO in a row last night... although I really didn't have to work that hard for this one. My team did a really good job of shutting them down. There's a wide spectrum of talent in my division - some teams have spanked us really good - where others we did the spanking.
There was a little scramble near the end of the 1st - and I felt my hip flexor go 'pop' again. All I could think was OH GREAT. Thankfully I didnt have too much work to do for the rest of the game. Today it feels ok - so far - but during the 2nd I felt like I almost wanted to puke.
There was one girl on the other team who was allowing herself to get far too frusterated out there. Her team got called for 2 offsides in a row - and after the 2nd one she totally slammed the puck into the boards really hard. Way to send a positive critisim to your team! She also started winding up and taking a big slapper when she was maybe not even 10 ft away from me. I'm not worried about me when she does that - but when she (or anybody) does that when there's someone inbetween them and me - just seems very unsportsmanlike. She did this a few times during the game.
We won 3-0.
Anyways - thats it. I didnt play my game on Sunday thanks to a sick car (again!!!) and nobody on my team lives out my way to get a ride in.

Rach, Congradulations on the 5th shutout!

Brian Boucher, eat your heart out!
After 5, you know you really are ready to jump up and challenge yourself. At this point it must be boring!
Let Sprawl continue with that team, as he may actually win a game there.

Got #6 tonight...
0-0 tie. There were a few instances where there was a scramble infront - and I just held my cool, kept my eye on the puck through all the legs, and stood tall while I was down in the bf. I also made an impressive european-style y-theroy save on one of the breakaways.
I played the puck about 5 times tonight. That is a record for me.

We lost though 1-0.

Oh boy - last night I really had a bad turn. Got called to fill in for a more better level. Only 6 skaters showed up for my team, the other team only had 8, and Gloria in net. I was warned that we'd get smothered pretty good... they weren't kidding. They were all over us and I particulairly had a really crapola night. First period started out ok, but then let in a weak goal. And then another. and another.... and another..... game ended 6-0, although they stopped counting at 5. UGH. I havent played that crappy in a long time, let alone had that many goals past me in one game.
I suppose I could blame the fact that I also had a headache that was running on its 3rd day would slow reactions down - but still...
....and I also managed to pinch my left shoulder muscle somehow and my left arm is all but useless today. Can't lift it above shoulder height, can't even tie my hair in a pony tail.... let alone turn my head to the left.
ARGHH!!!!

So let me get this straight, 7 games played, 5 wins, 5 shutouts, a GAA of 1.00, and played injured twice........Frig, Rach, you're a machine! Glad to see you pickup some stuff at Strathroy and make it work for you!
Don't feel too bad about the 6-0 game, if I can keep it under 4 in my leagues, I think I am doing it OK........:D:rolleyes:
I won't be down this summer for any of Wellsie's clinics, as I just bought a house, so my wife is working a lot of weekends, but I promise if Keeks does Strathroy or Scott does BattStock again, I'll be there, and I'll buy the beer this time!
Josh
P.S. If you go to NHL.com and watch the NHL awards for when Ovechkin gets the Hart, I saw you in the background, looking very pretty in that dress! Congrats on getting to go.

Thanks Josh!
Today we won 3-1. I really didn't have to do much for the win, and the goal that went in was just stupid... the girl who scored it was standing in my crease and it went in under me while i was in midst of dropping down. Ah well. Can't get a shutout every game haha. Im glad my team had a good game though.

Tonight was a stupid game for me. Let in goals that I should have had, and stopped ones that had no right to be stopped. We lost 5-0. They had a bench of 12, we had 6. Only one of the players was actually a D. I didnt have that much support, but I should have had some of those goals.
Oh well. Everyone's entitled to a crappy game once in awhile right?

Ive been out now for about a week and a half - my right shoulder is killing me. Went had xrays and an ultrasound done on it, but the doc said its a strain and the only cure is rest... physio would be an option but I have no medical coverage so its.. not an option. A friend of mine who's going to school for massage therapy has been doing some work on it and thinks its my rotator cuff. I still have some REAL tender spots on it and have to take painkillers.
This stinks.
