All the rinks in the area have been shut down for maintaince sense the end of april. I'm really starting to get the bug for some ice time BAD. My wife even told me I need to get some ice time. With any luck one of the rinks will be open thursday. A friend has already "rented" the ice but only if they get finnished with the rentovations.

My local rink closed for 'maintenance' a couple of Summers back.

Originally it was supposed to be only for a couple of weeks to 'tart the place up a bit'.
Ok we all though, nice break in June then back to it in July.

A couple of weeks became a month so they could get rid of the 20+ year old pipes, put a concrete base in (we have a sand base) and generally improve the plant and ice surface
Again, we were all happy as we were finally getting new pipes/concrete base etc after all these years

That month became two, I hadn't trained for 4 or 5 weeks then went to Goalie Camp as cold as a penguins standing in the shade.
Got through camp and came home, still not open.

Another month passed.

In the end they didn't even replace the pipes or the sand.

So we still have the old and even more battered pipes and the same old sand.

All we got was a horrible paint job and a ridiculous amount of time without ice.

The next nearest rinks are 60 minutes away minimum, and even then, it's hard to get ice time because each rink normally houses several teams.

The UK really does need more rinks :(
